26CornerBlitz Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 He retired More like retire or be fired.
fridge Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Anybody up for Gailey, his offenses weren't the problem. He got 1200 yards and 6.0 yards a carry from CJ Spiller. Imagine what he could do with McCoy. I would love this, but sadly he's retired.
YoloinOhio Posted January 18, 2017 Author Posted January 18, 2017 Never announce your withdrawal.put that one on a tee for ya
zonabb Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 I'm OK with the blocking policy for the following reason. most position coaches are only signed to two year contracts which means at most there would only be one season that you could be prevented from leaving. I'm sure when coordinators leave for HC positions it does create some havoc for team losing him. But in reality there may be less than 1/2 dozen per year. Coordinators sometimes leave teams that don't even have a HC change. So if you were to allow anyone to also leave for every open coordinator positions, think there's just be too much churn. So for one year at most you're locked in Oh well, sorry!! I actually wonder if that was the reason the Bills retained Crossman as the guy McD wants is signed till next year and there wasn't anyone else he really wanted. Come the end of next season, regardless how well they may do, a change is made. So much wrong with this argument. The most flawed being then if that person is so valuable, the employer should do one or both of the following: 1) Provide a contract extension and stop with the two year deals and/or 2) Big raise time. If I'm in a position where I signed a two year contract and I was not allowed out of it for a promotion, not a lateral move but a promotion, I would hate my employer and leave as soon as I was able, after of course I got my extension with a clause I can leave whenever I want and that raise. A competent employer has a plan for their organization to replace talent when it leaves because it's all replaceable. If you're asst to the travel secretary can't leave to be the traveling secretary somewhere else because you can't replace him, you are a moron and not someone anyone with talent would want to work with anyway.
ndirish1978 Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 I don't think you can block a promotion for a coach, only lateral moves. If he's below OC now, the Pats have nothing to say about it unless they instantly promote him to OC and fire McD. Rex couldn't block Pettine from becoming the Bills' DC because he wasn't the DC in NY. Similarly, the Bills couldn't block Pettine from going to Cleveland because it was a promotion. Plus, how much of a d#$k would you be if you blocked somebody on your staff from a promotion somewhere else. How many people would want to coach under that leadership? Nobody who thinks they'll be a HC someday. Come on guys. This has been misrepresented in every single hiring thread and corrected in every single one. The NFL has 2 classifications for coaches: head and assistant. Coordinator positions are not a promotion by that rule. If a coach is under contract as an assistant they can be blocked from taking a coordinator position because it is considered a lateral move. "Assistant Head Coach" is still considered an assistant and is not a workaround to the rule.

A contract is a contract bro. They write them for a reason. If you are talking about hiring clerks to run the counter at McDonalds - or to stock the shelves in a retail store then yes - employees are interchangeable for the most part. They are interchangeable and easily replaceable because so many average people have those skills. When you are talking about coaching at the NFL level - very, very few people have enough developed skill to get that job. It makes perfect sense that you want to keep a guy for his entire contract. That is why they write contracts and don't just employ them like store clerks.

GunnerBill Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Only if you have the same guy coaching both teams. And give him the title assistant Head Coach to exploit a loophole.
