26CornerBlitz Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 (edited) @RapSheet #Bills coach Sean McDermott discussed bringing in Al Holcomb as his DC… I’m told the name to watch now is #Ravens DBs coach Leslie Frazier Edited January 13, 2017 by 26CornerBlitz
MAJBobby Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 (edited) I prefer Holcomb personally. Though if they lose out in McCoy i really could see McDermott wanting a coach on his staff with former HC experience Edited January 12, 2017 by MAJBobby
26CornerBlitz Posted January 12, 2017 Author Posted January 12, 2017 I prefer Holcomb personally Maybe Rivera doesn't want him to go.
MAJBobby Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Maybe Rivera doesn't want him to go. Doesnt matter Lber coach to DC promotion. Has to let him go.
Buffalo_Stampede Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 I prefer Holcomb personally. Though if they lose out in McCoy i really could see McDermott wanting a coach on his staff with former HC experience Frazier is a highly respected coach. He would be a great get. They may both come. Money talks.
BaaadThingsMan Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Doesnt matter Lber coach to DC promotion. Has to let him go.unless he promotes him
Buffalo_Stampede Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Doesnt matter Lber coach to DC promotion. Has to let him go. Not true at all.
Boatdrinks Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Doesnt matter Lber coach to DC promotion. Has to let him go. NFL considers an assistant to assistant a " lateral move" not a promotion
Heitz Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Frazier is a highly respected coach. He would be a great get. 💯
MAJBobby Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 unless he promotes him Then then they lose their DB coach (who has already been tabbed to take the defense)
JM57 Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 NFL considers an assistant to assistant a " lateral move" not a promotion The league calls it a lateral move, but the coaches know its not. It's definitely frowned upon to not let someone go though for something that's a promotion like position coach to coordinator. Especially in this case where Steve Wilks is going to replace McDermott as DC
dwight in philly Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 i could be wrong , but wasnt frazier a candidate to be a H/C here a few years ago?
MAJBobby Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 NFL considers an assistant to assistant a " lateral move" not a promotion Thought that rule was changed
ndirish1978 Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 i could be wrong , but wasnt frazier a candidate to be a H/C here a few years ago? He was HC of the Vikings
MAJBobby Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 (edited) Either way it is easy. Hire Holcumb as DC and assistant HC there promotion cant be blocked And i knew it cant be blocked and Postion Coach to Coordinator is a promotion If the Bears wanted to hire away a team's contracted quarterbacks coach to run their offense, there would be nothing that could stop them, because going from a QB Coach to an Offensive Coordinator would be a step up. For example; If Chicago had their eye on Pittsburgh Steelers QB Coach Ken Anderson, they could hire him to be their new Offensive Coordinator, but not as a QB Coach (no lateral moves). Another example; If the Bears were interested in Kyle Shanahan, current offensive coordinator of the Houston Texans, they wouldn't be able to hire him as their new OC unless they added the Assistant Head Coach title in addition to his coordinator duties. Now if either of these two have their contracts expire after the 2009 season they'd essentially be free to sign with any team for any position. https://www.google.com/amp/www.windycitygridiron.com/platform/amp/2009/11/25/1173920/rules-on-hiring-nfl-coaches?client=safari Edited January 12, 2017 by MAJBobby
Hapless Bills Fan Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Doesnt matter Lber coach to DC promotion. Has to let him go. I don't think that's true. Only if it's a promotion to HC. Most teams will give permission, but they don't have to.

The league has only 2 categories for coaches: assistant and head. There is no third category for coordinators
