No, Lafontaine wanted to give his friend a job. Pegula thought it would be great PR. Tank came later.

Wrong. Tank was already the plan when Nolan joined. His job was to motivate a bunch of scrubs to play hard when they lose night after night.

So you're a new comer who doesn't remember the Buster Ramsey era.

Touche.

I feel like McDermott's resume', work ethic, and age have a lot to do with the hire. With Rex, we already knew what we'd be getting. With Sean, let's wait and see.

No other choice really right? Never been an HC before so no one could hate on him for being a bad one. Bills fans will need to wait until the first day of camp to hate on him! :)

Off topic a bit, but Murray wasn't even with the organization when Nolan was hired. The tank didn't start until they jettisoned Miller, and Pat wanted no part of that and walked out the door a day later.

That's not why he left. He was asked to leave the position like Oscar Madison was asked to leave the apartment. But Murray was not there when Nolan was hired, that's true.

Yeah, because he didn't want to be a part of the tank.

Pomminville was traded in Spring of 2013, Vanek in Fall of 2013. Regier had already publicly stated the "suffering" was starting. Miller left in 2014, the last valuable piece before sucking could commence full stream ahead. I'd time-stamp The Tank beginning in Fall of 2013.

Awesome, right? And this is "Whaley's pick" (wink wink).

Was it really??? I wonder how much input he really had in the decision. I would hope that it was his choice and all Terry & Kim needed to do was sign off on it.

That doesn't mean the Sabres didn't begin their teardown already.

Agreed. I think they already did as well. Most everyone eventually went for the tank, but people, both fans and Sabres employees and front office that jumped on at different times. That's not surprising nor does it show disarray.

No, because he tried to hire someone behind Pegula's back and did other unseemly acts which Terry found out about and canned him.

There wasn't a conspiracy.

Regier had no choice other than to "suffer" thanks to his previous moves. What you were watching in the fall of 2013 was simply a lousy hockey team trying to rebuild. When Murray came aboard the decision to actually try to lose games was made.

I agree, but the groundwork--and ironically the better "hauls" in terms of picks--came from Regier. The rebuild was full steam ahead once Vanek was shipped out. Murray inherited a situation which made losing on purpose much easier due to Regier.

Also, as you pointed out, the best piece of Tank move was hiring Nolan which was before Murray was brought on.

That fair, Regier's moves made the decision to tank an easy one. The true haul was #15 however. I'll stop talking hockey, there's a Sabres thread in the Off The Wall forum.

@john_wawrow

For those questioning Terry Pegula's impressions on McDermitt. William&Mary coach Laycock's opening answer on Sean dealt with wrestling:1/2

Laycock: "I guess he kind of had that wrestler mentality as a football player but he had the skills to play football as a defensive back."

Just got off with phone with McDermott's college coach, Jimmye Laycock. Seems wrestling played a big role in #Bills new coach's development.

because some people just need to find the negative slant on anything the Bills say or do.

Or it seems a really silly basis for to "know all you need to know" .

i could care less about the wrestling. I wrestled. Lotsa people wrestled.

seems silly to even say honestly

the miserables of this board...are still miserable

Don't blame yourself for all of it!

Awesome, right? And this is "Whaley's pick" (wink wink).

You wink so much I think you have an issue with eyes.

Do you know a competent (many aren't, there are a lot of quack just like posters) you can get medical advice from?

. But our owner is so smart.

He has not hired you for public relations which shows some brains but he has left Leroi on payroll in locker room which means things could get better.

now the fluffing

ok so now you are an expert on fluffing - you work in porn industry?

The Bills need to fix their relationship with the prima donnas at TBN.

The Bills need to treat them openly as cross between National Enquirer and opposition press.

Adding comments about Buffalo News is doing a public service keeping asylum inmates employed would not hurt.

If you're a Bills anti-fan, you throw shade. It's what you do.

Corrected. They are fans as much as the Punisher is a hero.

not only is the pegula honeymoon officially over, but weve already started the torch and pitchfork brigade

Question is what city can the Pegulas move the Sabres and Bills to and not violate rules about owning a major sports team (UK soccer does not count) in different market than NFL team?

Thank you for restoring my faith in reading comprehension. I was beginning to think Jerry Sullivan had multiple aliases on this board. JHC people, get a grip. Maybe review some Schoolhouse Rock lessons.

There is a difference between aliases and disciples; Coach Dickerson had disciples and sells mailing lists of them for potential mob leaders.

Bingo. Love Polian for what he did for Bills and a Hall of Fame GM. He's a bozo when it comes to statements about the Bills and what they might or should do. Last few years he's been all over the place.

Vic seems to be channeling his inner Polian.
