dave mcbride Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 My fear is that, once he gets his $$$, there will be no leverage and no way to (in your words) "hold him accountable." He has to want to put in the effort, tackle, and not look to blame teammates rather than chase after a guy running toward the end zone. The guy is a very, very good player (although I am not sure he is worth the money he reportedly wants) and I would love him at his best . . . I just do not know . . . . I thought he had a very good season. All CBs give up plays now and then.
Bleeding Bills Blue Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 I thought he was pretty good this year. However if we're switching to a primary cover 3 defense (under mcdermott), he can probably walk. He's a press-man type and likes to play under - which isn't a very good fit. No point overspending to stick a square peg in a round hole. I'd consider franchising him to see if he can fit, but i wouldn't extend him without seeing how he can play in a new defense.

Andrew Son Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 What exactly is the writing on the wall? What a god awful thread
ndirish1978 Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Unless you have a picture of him literally writing on the wall to add to your statement, the original post and the title have nothing to do with one another
Agent 91 Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Completely wrong. 2 TDs allowed all season, and a passer rating against of 67.7 If that's awful, then I'll take awful all day long, and so would 32 NFL head coaches. Could be 31. And stat wise he was good enough. But the eye test tells a different tale

Maury Ballstein Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 What exactly is the writing on the wall? Normally its "for a good time call" or "no trespassing"
folz Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 A couple of thoughts: Gilmore is very talented, and I had defended him prior to this past year. I was extremely disappointed in Gilmore this past year. It had everything to do with effort and attitude (presumably stemming from not wanting to get hurt) than with his ability. $14 million question: Can we trust the guy once he is paid or is tagged? Or, are we going to see a repeat of a guy who makes little effort to tackle or make a play and who would rather slow down to look over at another teammate rather than chase a guy heading toward the end zone? This sums it up perfectly. That is why I think they'll let him walk. New coach is apparently all about effort.

You and your "evidence" Bandit.... did you not see that play when the safety was miles out of position and Gilmore stopped chasing a guy he was never going to catch anyway and shouted at the safety? Yea.... well that is why he sucks. I know. I read it.
