Prickly Pete Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 (edited) So soon we will find out that 10 defenders on "D" was one of Rob's special packages.. It's called the "11-1 Defense". It was originally developed to counter the "Rope-a-Dope Offense". Edited January 6, 2017 by HoF Watkins
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 I thought Rob Ryan was the reason we were so good in the red zone this year on D.
Coach Tuesday Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 (edited) Yet another example of posters on this board being smarter than the Bills' front office. PTR, you listening? Lots of folks here predicted this would happen when Rob was hired (I was not one of them). Edited January 6, 2017 by Coach Tuesday
The Big Cat Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 I thought Rob Ryan was the reason we were so good in the red zone this year on D. For the first five games, may be.
PromoTheRobot Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Pegula should've never allowed Rex to hire his brother. Not supporting his head coach? Dysfunction, I say! Bills are ffckkd either way. Bad hire only gets worse.
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 For the first five games, may be. I think we were really great through November. Then, started to nose dive for the rest of the season. Not necessarily defending Rob Ryan, but that seems to coincide with all the injuries at safety.

Blokestradamus Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 I'd give Jerry a raise for this if I'm the Pegula family.
blargo Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 And I thought that Rex completely ruined this defense. If this is true, Rex was even more stupid than I thought. The only thing that gives me hesitation is that immediately the defense played better. The first month Rob was here the Bills won four straight games and the Red zone defense which he was put in charge of was at the top of the league. Not sticking up for Rob in any way, he and Rex together screwed over this defense and this team and this season and I'm thrilled they're gone. But I'd really like to know who this one guy was, and whether his teammates agreed with him. Yes and at the 1/2 way point the Bills lead the league in sacks and that too disappeared at the end. The pressure just disappeared.
Hapless Bills Fan Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 If Rob was the problem, then Rex was too for allowing his brother to be the de facto DC. This
D. L. Hot-Flamethrower Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Another example of personality over substance. Rex can weave a spell, he just can't back it up. Give me a person with substance and can back it up over a good media interview.
OhDozeBills Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Interesting, and makes sense. Nothing worse than when you have the players and a coach totally ruins them. Such a shame

Not necessarily defending Rob Ryan, but that seems to coincide with all the injuries at safety. Both might be true. If he were mixing man with zone and reacting to the offense, Aaron Williams could possibly have been the field general Jim-Leonard-type who got everyone into position, so it was confusing, but they made it work. When Aaron went out, without the field general to get everyone in place, everyone was confused.
reddogblitz Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 I noticed after the first few games we weren't blitzing much. I chalked it up to Rob's influence. When he was DC in Dallas or New Orleans or Cleveland or Oakland, he didn't blitz much. Then instead he was only in charge of red zone D. I guess read wrong.
3rdand12 Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 It's a damn shame. Makes sense though.. terrible mistake based on emotion if true I honestly feel bad for Rex. loyal to the death. and i bit of respect for that. Not smart at all though if true. And i like Dunne
Fadingpain Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Keep this clown show in mind now as you attempt to make "logical conclusions" about our plans for HC and QB for 2017! Anything goes at OBD. Anything.
4merper4mer Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Two biggest marks against Rex coming to the Bills: Light on details Loyal to his own detriment No surprise they're what did him in. You left "crappy defensive scheme" off the list.

Lots of folks here predicted this would happen when Rob was hired (I was not one of them). I was but I can't take credit. Rob Ryan has always been a terrible DC and it is not surprising our defense played so poorly
3rdand12 Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 I was but I can't take credit. Rob Ryan has always been a terrible DC and it is not surprising our defense played so poorly It is surprising because we were told he was an advisor. Then kinda worked with LBs. He was not supposed to be the DC ! Even his brother must have known he was not good at that role. Rex is many things, but stupid is not one of them. I am surprised this happened, if true.
