I always thought that if a team requests to interview another team's assistant under contract for a promotion, the current team couldn't block it. Then I saw this -

@adamschefter

Eagles denied Jets permission to interview their QB coach John DeFilippo for offensive coordinator job, per league source.

So can the Bills block ALynn from interviewing elsewhere for a HC job if, say, they decide to hire a guy like Harold Goodwin, and just keep him as OC?

I don't think they can block a HC interview.

The rule is you cannot block assistants from interviewing for a HC job. Other promotions you can.

Interesting... I mean who wouldn't want to work with Sackenberg?

@amytrask

Note: sometimes when a team denies another permission to interview it's b/c assistant doesn't want that interview, team provides "cover."
