Wouldnt it have been smarter for tyrod to wait a couple weeks so he wouldnt be able to pass physical? And also what if tyrod were to get injured between now and then with a non football injury, do those count too?

I think he's too good of a guy to want to actively do what you're saying.

He did say on locker room clean out day that he wasn't going to wait if he needed a procedure as he wanted to begin offseason training as soon as possible. Said the injury guarantee wasn't a concern.

Yes. Also, see above, he said he hoped it wasn't as bad as "they think it is". Who is "they" in this context, except the Bills physicians and the specialists they referred him to? It seems pretty clear the Bills believed he would need surgery, Taylor hoped he didn't but when the 2nd opinion concurred with the team doctors, he decided to get it done immediately.

The wording in the Bills' statement calls that into question. Don't know if that's their intent or not.

Well put.

I think Dareus likes to sit on the sofa though.

Dareus *is* the f*ck*ing sofa. Big like a refrigerator only softer and more squishy.

People who know me, know that even when I have reservations about a player, I will persistently defend him from what I view as "over the top" or unfair criticism, but Mr Big Toke needs to decide if he's a 'baller or a buoy and get his head in the game PDQ if he wants to be the former.

I think it only calls it into question if you're a member of the press fishing for controversy.

Compare and contrast to a report on Adrian Peterson. The same wording is used without all this second guessing or yakking about "tone": "All pro running back Adrian Peterson has elected to have surgery" "Adrian Peterson Chooses to have Surgery".

"Elective surgery" is a standard medical term used to describe surgery that is not absolutely indicated as necessary for health, where there is a reasonable option to wait and see or to live with the condition.

"Chooses to have surgery" is standard usage for someone who, well, chooses to undergo elective surgery.

@AndrewBrandt

Tyrod Taylor and @buffalobills contract situation ahead has "there will be lawyers" written all over it. The posturing has already begun.

We've probably seen the same wording literally hundreds of times in sports. At the end of the day you always "elect" to have surgery. Nobody can be physically forced into having surgery lol. Therefore the phrase "elected to have surgery" doesnt automatically imply anything other than the obvious. If we're talking semantics here, we can go around in circles for hours. Its kinda silly.

This reminds me of teenagers that receive a 5 word txt from some boy/girl they really like and analyze the $h*t out of those 5 words for possible hidden meaning

RIDICULOUS.

‏@AlbertBreer

If Taylor gets that $15.5M bonus from the Bills, then his $12M base becomes fully guaranteed. That makes it a $27.5M problem for Buffalo.

RE: the Tyrod Taylor situation ... If the Bills cut him while he's injured, union would argue he's entitled to his $27.5M for 2017. (cont)

So Bills have to wait til Taylor's healthy before cutting him. Problem arises if that extends past 3/12, when $15.5M option bonus is due.

I've never heard of a career-ending groin injury.

 or maybe Tyrod got a second opinion and decided to get surgery now? Buffalo media still stoking that dysfunction narrative.

no, that statement was either with purpose or terribly reckless. you dont say that the player elected and informed the team late yesterday unless you are trying to make a point or are unqualified for the job.

you dont think that the team couldve softened their verbiage considerably to make this a non-story?

Im fine with the statement. Its factually correct. And theres nothing wrong with TT having the surgery. Everything else is just noise generated by people who have an agenda one way or another. Imo

Yup interesting. Myers is an expert in the field. I trust that if the expert said to have surgery, surgery was required.

I dont necessarily think that the bills statement saying he elected to have surgery is a definitive statement that surgery wasnt required.

Does it mean that surgery was required but he couldve had it later on not right now? Does it mean that no surgery was required and it wouldve healed on its own over several months? If it wouldve taken months to heal on its own would be pass a physical in March? Would electing to have surgery allow him to pass a physical in March as opposed to just letting it heal on its own?

Nobody knows these answers yet and shouldnt pretend to know them. He consulted with a specialist. The specialist obviously recommended to have surgery. Thats all we know.

It's a sports hernia repair.

It's symptoms are pain. The choice to have it repaired is completely elective and up to TT.

He would pass a physical with or without the surgery. There are no physical findings (groin tenderness maybe) that would cause him to fail an exam.

If he was good to play Sunday, he would have passed a team physical.

would "After receiving a second opinion surgery was opted for and will be completed this morning" be a much nicer read than "Tyrod Taylor had a consultation visit yesterday with Dr. William Meyers and elected to have surgery this morning. The Bills were informed late yesterday of this mornings procedure"????

Except Taylor already informed the team that he was getting a second opinion on his groin after the Bills team doctors recommended surgery! He went to an outside doctor, who confirmed the Bills docs findings, and BOOM he decides to get the surgery asap.

You have to remember it's the job of the Joe B's to turn mole hills into the Himalayas of horseshit.
