1-5: Tyrod Taylor is Having Surgery Today

Recommended Posts

Yup interesting. Myers is an expert in the field. I trust that if the expert said to have surgery, surgery was required.

I dont necessarily think that the bills statement saying he elected to have surgery is a definitive statement that surgery wasnt required.

Does it mean that surgery was required but he couldve had it later on not right now? Does it mean that no surgery was required and it wouldve healed on its own over several months? If it wouldve taken months to heal on its own would be pass a physical in March? Would electing to have surgery allow him to pass a physical in March as opposed to just letting it heal on its own?

Nobody knows these answers yet and shouldnt pretend to know them. He consulted with a specialist. The specialist obviously recommended to have surgery. Thats all we know.

I'm hoping it doesn't become a point of contention for the Bills with Taylor and his representation.

If i were him I'd cut a deal with the doctor like, psssssst yo doc, i got 2 million for you if you can kind of hurt me during surgery, BUT DON'T KILL ME, just make sure i cant pass a physical by March 11.

You think that doctor would risk his license for that? Do you have any idea how much he makes over his career as an expert in his field? These conspiracies are crazy. And TT doesnt have to pay anyone millions to have surgery. Hes injured unfortunately. Your scenario assumes that TT is faking it.

Wouldnt it have been smarter for tyrod to wait a couple weeks so he wouldnt be able to pass physical? And also what if tyrod were to get injured between now and then with a non football injury, do those count too?

Nope. I posted the clause not to long ago

Not at all. I was just saying if "I" was Tyrod. Im broke and broke people do and say irrational things.

Bills could pass him regardless

Did not know that.

Save the two million just go home and load up the bar for some squats in a few days.

This is not a league doctor conducting the physical, it's the team doctors. If it's even borderline he will pass. I fail to see how him opting for surgery now as opposed to waiting and checking on the injury in a few weeks is anything but prudent. We are now talking about TONE in statements people.

Whether or not this is a negotiating ploy, who really cares? The fact remains the team is undecided on whether to bring him back. Both sides will posture to try and make the March 11 deadline work in their favor in order to advance their interests. The Bills would like to keep the option of bringing Tyrod back but at reduced compensation if the new HC wants him and TT's agent will want to try and use the looming possibility of him not passing his physical as leverage to protect his interests. This is business, that's how negotiations work.

"Bills QB Tyrod Taylor had a consultation visit yesterday with Dr. William Meyers and elected to have surgery this morning. The Bills were informed late yesterday of this morning's procedure."

How is this an interesting statement? Seems clear to me

He did say on locker room clean out day that he wasn't going to wait if he needed a procedure as he wanted to begin offseason training as soon as possible. Said the injury guarantee wasn't a concern.

Crystal.

For people who believe in alien abductions however, TT is faking the injury and paid off a medical expert to cut him open.

Albert Breer Retweeted Buffalo Bills

In this post, words "chose" and "elected" were used, re: Taylor's surgery. If he can't pass a physical on 3/11, his injury guarantees vest.

Now this is just getting stupid.

"Elected" in this case means, as Sammy did with his foot, Taylor could have chosen to rest for 8-12 weeks and then reevaluate and have surgery if needed. There is a medical judgement call involved. Whether or not a guy is a professional athlete, it's still his choice if he wants to sign a consent form and let someone cut.

In his locker clean out interview, Taylor implied that the Bills physicians thought he needed surgery, he didn't want it, and he was seeking a second opinion: "I'm going to get a second opinion on Wednesday, hopefully, it's not as bad as they think it is" and then said if he needs surgery, he wants to get it "out of the way" so he can get on with off season training, it's not about the guarantees.

Who is "they" in his interview, but the Bills physicians? It seems pretty clear the Bills physicians told Taylor they thought he needed surgery, Taylor wanted a second opinion, the second opinion agreed, so he elected to have the surgery ASAP.

It's ridiculous (and not helpful to Tyrod and his agent) to imply they are playing some sort of "injury guarantee game" with the surgery. All signs point to Tyrod wants to play football, not to sit on the sofa and play Madden; he and his agent think he's done enough to earn a shot (and some big bucks) if not here, then somewhere else in this QB-starved league. His mobility and speed are clearly one of his major assets, so to put them at question only puts his future at question.

Yes, he could have complications and a longer-term recovery, but that's certainly not his "plan"

Well put.

I think Dareus likes to sit on the sofa though.

@AlbertBreer

If Taylor gets that $15.5M bonus from the Bills, then his $12M base becomes fully guaranteed. That makes it a $27.5M problem for Buffalo.

RE: the Tyrod Taylor situation ... If the Bills cut him while he's injured, union would argue he's entitled to his $27.5M for 2017. (cont)

So Bills have to wait til Taylor's healthy before cutting him. Problem arises if that extends past 3/12, when $15.5M option bonus is due.
