Did the fire alarm go off just outside the press room? Whaley sprinted up and out in a flash.

he needed to get to his phone -- rex was calling to tell him which coach to hire.

i would have asked. Whats your plan for fixing the defense? Will you be looking for an offensive or defensive coach this time around? Have you or do you plan on speaking to the players about the lack of discipline some players have brought up?

Whaley already declined to talk about what he's looking for in the HC search. He was asked.

The answers to any of those other questions would just be hollow. You criticize the media for their questions but yours aren't any better and you're being naive if you think Whaley was going to give you a detailed response with any kind of substance for any of them

Do people realize you can give someone's boss a poor review of their work without actually calling for them to be fired?

How many people storm into their manager's office and tell them someone else should be fired? If you're thinking about doing that you should probably hold off, it's not gonna make you look good.

and I agree with you and Wayne. enough to keep me one more season. but i have said that before....

You are good guy. Dont' fall prey to the overreation the media would like to lead you too. This PC is meaningless. The only potential negative, the one the media would have you believe, is that Nobody come here because we are dysfunctional. That is a croc of BS. If Whaley hires the right coach this team is close just like Whaley said.

This is such a cop out. It's not going to stop me from being a fan but does that mean I have to be obvlivious to the obvious issues going on at OBD?

It's not a cop out. It's a question.

I'm serious, knowing those things, what effect does that have on you as a fan? Because for me, it has zero. I don't care about the how's and why's of Rex's firing. The Pegulas have a organizational structure in place. It's what they believe works. We can't change owners. So I'm not sure what else I can do as a fan besides be pissed off. And I don't really want to spend my life being pissed at something that is a form of entertainment.

atleast they would pertain to the on field product and not a witch hunt against the pegulas and organization. The fans want to know about the product on the field, not what pegula eats for breakfast. Well, maybe kim...

As those of you who read my posts know, I am as hard on the Buffalo media as anyone - especially the guys at TBN who are simply horrible (as someone else said, negativity is porn to Sullen and Bucky).

I also know that press conferences do not win games.

Having said all of that, I cannot think of anything that happened that instilled me with confidence about the GM or the product on the field. I also am a guy who is the glass is more than half full. I always found something hopeful to keep me going.

Unless something drastically changes, this is about as pessimistic I have been about the upcoming year as I can remember since the 2-14 days. Maybe we can entice a coach that I admire and I will feel better.

As for now, I believe (you guys are welcome to disagree with me) that the GM (or if he is to be believed "Limited or No Manager") threw the other guy under the bus in less than two years - even though the other guy was the most successful Bills HC in the past 17 years. Why would a hot coaching candidate with options choose to work with Doug if he has other options all other things being equal.

It is funny how Doug defended himself by saying we were so close at 7-9 and 7-8 was not good enough for the HC whom (I believe) Doug threw under the bus.

Whaley didn't hire Rex. Whaley wouldn't have hired Rex. The Pegula's hired Rex. Rex reported to the Pegulas. The Pegulas fired Rex. The Pegulas have now instructed Whaley to hire the next coach of the team and he will do so (Pegulas will need to sign off of course, but they will sign the line for whoever Whaley picks this time).

Pretty brutal presser where almost all the questions were about Whaley's job and what he does and doesn't do...but it's obvious he works for Terry and does whatever the hell Terry tells him to do! IDK what more the reporters in the room needed to hear lol.

Granted, they did eventually push Whaley so far in the corner he had to just say "yes" when asked if he approved of the Rex hire ("yes, it was a Bills hire, so yes"), but it couldn't be more clear that it wasn't his hire and the next coach will be his hire.

What is the one conclusion I can reach based on the only information I gained from that presser? Lynn is not likely to be our next HC.

Good post.

Needs to be merged with the other thread.

If you're coming off of a very disappointing season then you want there to be hope that things are going to be turned around and this team has a vision and is on a path towards success. I got none of that and today did not help. There is an obvious issue in the management structure with this team and I don't have much confidence anyone at OBD knows how to make this team successful. It doesn't change how I feel as a fan but it's very discouraging.

Oh no Peter, Tom Telesco GM for the Chargers, who just fired Mike McCoy just said they are close and aren't far away. They've had back to back losing seasons.

I'm sure he is a bright guy and knows football. I hope he gets the right coach hired and he makes the playoffs next year. What he said is true, they are close. Sadly, people are never happy, I question whether the media would even be happy with a blowout SB win.

Marv Levy used to say that the fans & the media are mad when the team loses & they are also mad when the team wins because it wasn't a big enough win.

You don't speak for the fans. Maybe you don't care but I want to know who's making important decisions for this team and what went into the major decisions being made this year.

Peter if he makes the right hire at HC you could well be sitting here next year with a playoff game. He was not lying when he said this team is close and needs to get over the hump. IMO this team has more talent than they we when Gailey, Marrone were here. Bottom line is they could have made the playoffs this year with some competent head coaching. He knows he better get it right and I think he will.

The other thing that is clear to me

The structure of who the HC reports to needs to be the GM that why we dont have these brutal press conferences fo the media trying to figure out whats going on.

HC reports to GM.....period

Isn't that really for the owner to decide. And who are we to tell them otherwise. They own the friggin team. If I owned the team, I would want to be the primary decision maker in any of the top guys I am betting the direction of my franchise on. I don't blame them one bit. It has to be an exceptionally large pill to swallow to relinquish control at the very top of an organization you just paid a billion four hundred thousand dollars for.

All this whining about the Pegulas not knowing what they are doing is utter nonsense. It is a waste of breath and keystrokes to complain about our owners. And it paints fans who are doing so in a bad light in my opinion.

nobody got any of that because of the nature of the press conference and the obvious witch hunt that the media conducted. It made it impossible to gleen anything out of the presser whatsoever. Thats the point, glad you finally realize that.

You don't speak for the fans. Maybe you don't care but I want to know who's making important decisions for this team and what went into the major decisions being made this year.

all of that has been talked about all year, pay attention.

People forget how bad some of these same media guys were back in the 90s when were had a terrific team. It is a mistake to overreact to what the media narrative is. Trump -need I say more.

what did whaley say about lynn? i was lost in all his diarrhea of the mouth.

He gave (in so many words) the clearest answer we have been given yet that Rex was not his guy. He then clearly said Lynn was installed by the Pegulas based on Rex's recommendation. I assume, based on these two truths, that reports of Lynn being a shoe-in are misinformed. He also said, point blank, that it is an open search.

Obviously he didn't say "I will not hire Anthony Lynn" but based on what we know it is safe to assume that if we do hire Lynn something went wrong in the search and we missed on 1 or more candidates we liked better.
