ROONDOGG55 Posted December 27, 2016 Author Posted December 27, 2016 Here are a few reasons why: The guy puts in the time and effort to game plan specifically against each opponent (Unlike the Rex goon squad and the predictable blitz on every 3rd down). He revolutionized Belichick's world by transition the pencil and paper days to the digital era (obviously the tablet thing didn't work). Has experience working with the offense, defense, and shadowed Bill on scouting trips. Lastly, he is a f****** rocket scientist!
4merper4mer Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 Michigan QBs sucked for decades in the NFL for decades ... until they didn't. Until Brady and a lesser extent Harbaugh, avoiding Michigan QBs was a mantra in the NFL. The point is, judge the individual, not the history of the place he comes from. I guess, but NE has been a documented cheater with a very closed off environment for assistants. They seem like figure heads and have performed like figure heads.
Chuck Wagon Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 Doubt he would leave NE. He will be the successor of BB if he ever retires Some people say Patricia is waiting for BB's job, others say McDaniels is, meanwhile BB has given zero indication he's going to retire any time soon and both Patricia & McDaniels have expressed interest in other jobs. Wish this narrative about "coach in waiting" would just die out. Kirby Smart was Alabama's "Coach in Waiting" until he got the Georgia job. These guys aren't going to sit around waiting for whatever day BB retires (He's still "only" 64, he could coach another 10 years easily), they'll take a job that's worth taking.

They seem like figure heads and have performed like figure heads. I definitely get your point, but I'll say this about Patricia - he's clearly smart (and not just because of his degree). I'm surrounded by Pats fans, and I follow them closely. This was a D that had some serious problems early on but he has righted the ship in a big way - figuring out who is good at what, covering up weaknesses, and dialing up the right schemes. They've given up the fewest points in the league and have been on fire the last 6 weeks or so.

If he was waiting for BB's job, why did he bother interviewing for the Browns head coaching job? Wouldn't it be easier to just decline? Big waste of time interviewing for a job you don't want and having to go through all that preparation for something you don't want.
VaMilBill Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 These posts need to realize that there is no way in hell any pats coach will go to Buffalo only to go against belichik twice a year. Mangini disobeyed belichik and was blackballed by belichik after he went to the Jets. No sane coordinator will make the same mistake
Boatdrinks Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 Please no. That lumberjack just stepped outta Wal Mart looking scruff? Can't stand even seeing the guy standing on the sidelines, much less coaching the Bills. No attention to detail on his appearance anyway. Besides, that D is Belichicks and no one else's. He's just their version of Dennis Thurman running a ( better) Belichick D. Their offense is brilliant design , and McDaniels should be interviewed though.
MAJBobby Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 So far the only people i say Re "in waiting" for anything is Nick Caserio (GM position) Eric Decosta (GM position) Because the BOTH routinely denied interviews Please no. Also, do you realize that NE has the number one defense in the league this year using in terms of points allowed?

They will tell your its BB defense and ignore its been Patricias for years.

Mangini disobeyed belichik and was blackballed by belichik after he went to the Jets. No sane coordinator will make the same mistake Remember how stoked McDaniels was when he went to coach Denver and his Denver team defeated Bill Belichick's Patriots? To be the best you have to beat the best. Not everyone is scared of BB. You insult those coordinators by assuming they are scared of their head coach. Plenty of people are man enough for the task of taking them on 2x every year.

Bellichecks D, that is the dumbest thing ever. Was it Bills D when Romeo was there? Bill is no Rex and he lets his Coordinators do their job. Patricia has done a marvelous job there and is literally a genius, something this team desperately needs.

McDaniel drafted Tim Tebow in the first round! I can understand the "Belichick's defense" comment, but dude lay off the boat drinks. Besides, the offense is all Brady. Gosh, everyone knows that!

Lol that "brilliant offense" is 75% the same as when Charlie Weis was here..as for Patricia man is very smart and is def running BB defense as BB has threw the years (even this one) pulled the D aside and coached them up. Also if you think appearance = great or good coaching then I point to one BB aka the emperor and say YA NO! Lol
Nick the Greek Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 Another Syracuse guy eh? Marrone 2.0?

MAJBobby Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 And this is what this defense needs. Belichick seemed to have an epiphany. If he jettisoned players whose performance dipped, who were approaching a big payday, or who just didnt fit his culture Patricia could still take the remaining players and build a defense that would maintain a certain level of play. As Matt Light put it: If [Patricia] can look at a rocket and figure out how the thrust is going to interact with the gravitational force, he can look at the opponents scheme and get fairly creative, right? http://mmqb.si.com/mmqb/2016/11/28/nfl-matt-patricia-bill-belichick-patriots-defense
dpberr Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 I think he's a brilliant coordinator but I worry that he's been sheltered up there in New England having the same job for the same boss for so many years. He's never experienced losing either - having joined the Patriots in the year they won the Super Bowl. He's only ever worked in the winning, well-oiled machine of the Patriots. The spotlight and amount of work that goes into being a head coach on his own, on top of all the Buffalo dynamic is a big ask.
quinnearlysghost88 Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 no. you find a HC who finds a guy like Matt Patricia. the BB tree doesn't work when pruned and re-planted. get a manager and a guy who can find good coaching talent.
Buffalo Barbarian Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 He lets them do their job but BB fingerprints are all over the D. The O not so much as he has TWO coordinators there in McDaniels AND Brady. He was a D coordinator but it has been clear for some time that he lets his guys coach. So who call the plays BB or Matt? that tells me who is really running the D.
