If he were named HC, it is quite likely someone like Kromer takes over as OC. In Chicago he threw the ball more we do. I'm guessing the offense would be alot less G Roman. We certainly don't want to get rid of the aspects that work well, the running game. Lynn being HC and promoted also helps with the perception league wide of cleaning house after 2 years.

It isn't just the OC's "philosophy" that is causing them to not throw the ball often. Tyrod Taylor is not a strong passer and they have been down to the JV WRs for most of the season - passing more often would have been playing to their own weakness rather than their strengths.

Here folks have rightfully criticized Rex for staying with his system rather than playing what fit his player's strengths- yet folks are clamoring for someone to pass more even though that is clearly not a fit for their personnel.

And hope that Lynn brings in a proven DC that runs a "Schwartz type" defense.

A good point is being made this morning that teams that fire coaches after 2 years dont look very good to head coaches around the league when it comes to longevity.

Dont blow it completley up....the offense is playing well...the D doesnt suit the players and has recently been excellent.

Correct. Well said. Lynn is leaving for HC job somewhere, so we should grab him before he is gone.

I agree with MAJ on this one.

I would off Scwartz first. He probably says no out of pride.

Then in order of preference

1. Kyle Shanahan

2. James Franklin

3. Brian Schotenheimer

Like that list.

Add Jeff Fisher as my DC or Gus Bradley or Zimmer if he is unjustly fired (someone that is going back to a 4-3 base) and i am game

Land me one of those 3 names and i Promise I will not even complain about Taylor next year. (If he is kept)

Most of the reason is the preferred philosophy of the coach, and former OC . Lynn has stated he hasn't been able to do much different without an offseason. As you stated, we have been using JV WR too, so you can't do much with the passing game either because of that.

Jeff Fisher is an !@#$, and not a good coach. His behavior in LA takes him off any list.

He can coach one hell of a defense and any team that has him with a chip on his shoulder as a DC is going to have one hell of a defense

Anthony Lynn has stated that his buddy Todd Haley is his favorite offensive coordinator and that he studies his game plans. So expect Lynn to install an offense similar to that.

Also, Lynn is all about self-scouting his own players and knowing them inside and out.

Seeking advice

Thrust into the offensive coordinator’s role, Lynn had a good idea how he wanted to approach everything. He’s had a plan in place for quite some time, but inheriting the job and the offensive system in the throes of the season left him with questions. Knowing he didn’t have all the answers Lynn called one of his primary coaching mentors, Hall of Fame coach Bill Parcells.

“It was Saturday when I called,” said Lynn. “He’s been a mentor for me all along. We talk over the course of the offseason, and before every coaching interview I’ve ever gone into. He’s been there and done it and I wanted to pick his brain. He gave me some good advice.”

One of Parcells’ chief coaching principles has been to structure your scheme to the talent of your personnel. Much like his conversation with Wooden, Parcells stressed the importance of maximizing your players’ ability by allowing them to play fast.

“We talked about the volume of the offense and what players can handle and finding that sweet spot,” said Lynn. “You want to have enough options, but you don’t want to have too many because that’s going to hurt your personnel. So that was the message and it’s always been that. It’s just sometimes you need it reinforced.”

Parcells told him to cut the Bills voluminous offensive playbook in half. It was a bit further than Lynn even wanted to go, at which point the man he coached under in Dallas issued a threat.

“He made a statement,” Lynn said. “He said, ‘You better do it or I’m going to come to Buffalo and kick you’re a**.’”

Let us bow our heads and thank any and every God, once again, that John from Hemet is not the GM of the Buffalo Bills.

Amen.

no ****. His takes in the shoutbix are laughable as all hell. He will has refused to debate rexs bad defense since week 8. Saying each time, though, generally during a game, "that now is not the time."

The day he makes a football decision that pans out is the day I doubt all things I know football.

McDaniels, possibly Haley or Shanahan. Even Coughlin. I could see any of them developing the QB better than this staff has and beating the Pats sooner than Lynn.

my only hope that coughlin would come in and hold people accountable. Make coordinators coach and builds system up to have his successor in house. I'm fine with keeping ALynn as an RB coach but not yet sure as an OC. I don't want Coughlin calling plays nor making football calls. My greatest fear would be Coughlin being a real HC here and faulting calls like he did in Jersey.

Coughlin as an overseer to highly talented coordinators who make a lot and all he does is captain the ship. That's all I want him for... If Carolina cuts Shula as OC I want him bad. He did good to help Newton and can utilize TE's. Paired with Lynn it would be a formidable offense.

Defense no clue yet.

The others, I'm not sure how I feel who I'd want as HC...

Theres passing plays to be made in this offense, just need to make more of them.I hate Bill Parcells, he'll probably talk Lynn out of taking the HC position if he's offered anyways.

Taylor is as strong as Newton. And a lot smarter. If Mike Shula comes in, hoping he gets canned, we can be very happy to see him get WR's involved.

Further, doen the line Newton hassaid if Shula goes he wants out. Shula leaving to Buffalo could bring za few Cam lovers here their dream

But it is a unkknown......did we think Rex was going to come in and turn our defense upside down?

Yes. Everyone knew that Rex would be implementing his defense, even the owners. That's the baffling part. Immediately upon news of Rex, the talk turned to what would become of Schwartz. The writing was on the wall. But this is true of most coaches. They believe in one thing and that's what they run. It's what they know. Very few coaches run something they design around the talent they inherit. It's why a fit is so critical for a coach. There are few exceptions. One would be Wade Phillips. He has successfully run a 4-3 and 3-4 defense, and has shown the ability to implement either based on what is in the cupboard. Phillips is really the exception to the rule. Look at Schwartz. He's going to run a wide nine. He just happened to step into the perfect situation in Buffalo. Most NFL coaches are specialists, not chameleons.

Jim Bob Cooter, Lions OC, I like how Stafford has progressed as a QB, think he could do the same for Tyrod

I believe this is a myth. I like what Cooter has done with the Lions O and Stafford. But Tyrod will never be Matt Stafford as an NFL QB. Guys can get better at things to a point, but a coach cannot make them more talented. Taylor is what he is. He can incrementally improve, but is simply a flawed QB. I still think the Bills can win with him to a point. They need something better, probably to be obtained in the draft. Tyrod will do for a year or two.

Then blame falls with Whaley and the Pegulas in this....

They need to fix it....not latch onto it for another year

Try Russ and Pegulas but your right

Yep. And I'd agree that it was Russ and the Pegulas. I can see Whaley being complicit , but more a bystander. He was an inherited GM, Russ a back room business type. He probably felt his job status was shaky, and was more than happy to agree with the popular opinion. I think Whaley knows he's next on the hot seat and would like to have a major say in hiring a HC , as most GMs get to do. I'm not a big Whaley fan, but it appears he's safe with the Pegulas for now. He needs to be a big part of the reason things get fixed. The right HC could turn this group around rather quickly. They're not bereft of talent like Cleveland.

Tom Couglin - old as fuk

Bill Cowher - NOT coming out of retirement

Jim Schwartz - NOT a good HC.....

The decision what what to do next has as much to do with HC options as it does anything else.

Tom Coughlin: First off, age has nothing to do with how good a head coach can be unless he has health problems. Dick Vermiel was 61 when hired by St Louis and in three years they won the SB. Marv Levy was also 61 when he took the bills HCing job and coached the Bills until he was 72. Marv is now 91. An older head coach could be a bridge to the coordinator he hires.

One thing is for certain this team will be disciplined under Coughlin and he also supports a 4-3 scheme while having a strong run game. His teams will have fewer penalties and actually be able to tackle. Grade, big improvement!

Bill Cowher: (age 59) no team has been able to lure "the chin" away from the broadcast booth for various reasons. The most important reason is he wants a solid established QB. Cowher is also a disciplinarian who won't allow players to constantly screw up. If you look closely at Cowher's body of work in Pittsburgh he was able to take the Steelers to the playoffs 10 out of the 15 years he was there and he was able to do that with mostly scrubs at QB. Neil O'Donnell- Kordell Stewart-Mike Tomczak-Tommy Maddox all scrubs. He didn't get Big Ben until the last three years in Pittsburgh.

Meanwhile, Tomlin has had Big Ben his entire time in his ten years as Steelers HC and has missed the playoffs four times. Cowher will return to coaching in the NFL in the right circumstance and the way the Bills FO is currently structured he many not even consider it.

Jim Schwartz: This man took over a team that didn't win a single game in 2008 (0-16)and got them in the playoffs in three years at 10-6. QB Matthew Stafford fell on his face after making the playoffs in 2011 and the team went with him. Schwartz was fired after a 7-9 2013 season. The Lions hired an offensive minded HC to help QB Matt Stafford.

The Buffalo Bills FO will need to decide what type of HC they want to hire as this team did well under Lynn and it might be wise to keep him as OC while allowing him to continue to run the offense. Then hire a defensive guy like Coughlin, Cowher, Schwartz to build the defense.
