Rex was trying to say that it was Gilmore who was not in, and that he was in the concussion protocol. So it's possible that was a problem with his replacement or whomever was calling the defensive groupings, which may or may not have been Rex.

Rex needs to go regardless. This may or may not have been his fault.

He's the HC and it falls on him no matter what.

That's not necessarily true. At all. I'm of the opinion that it was likely him calling the defense and groupings at that point in the game and not knowing Gilmore was there and making sure his replacement was on the field would be his responsibility and his fault. But that may not have been the case. It's very possible he called a specific defense and would expect his players in that defense to be on the field. If Gilmore is out his replacement should know he is part of that grouping. No defensive coach anywhere counts all 11 players on the field each time he calls a specific grouping, injury or not.

HC is accountable fir all coaching errors. Because he chooses his assistants. Probably his bumbling brother he hired out of pure nepotism. If that's the case we have all been royally screwed.

No, the HC hires assistants and is accountable for their errors. Its a basic tenet of leadership. Hire good assistants and you wont have issues.

Even if Gilmore wasn't hurt and he was out there for that play, it still would have gone down the way it did. Did you see Gilmore's tackling prowess this year at all? Me neither.

Defend Rex all you want, this is the kind of thing that's just inexcusable. Buffalo has lacked a head coach capable of making good decisions in-game for this entire streak.

If I were interviewing head coaches, I'd present them that exact game situation and ask them what they would do - 4th and 3 in overtime in a must-win game with little time left to get the ball. Anyone that says "punt" would be immediately escorted out of the building. These are the kinds of things where coaches like Belichick are worth their weight in gold.

Not many are

There is such a thing as having too many coaches and too many voices. The opportunity for confusion rises with so many staffers on the sidelines with overlapping responsibilities.

I think that is very true and very likely could have led to the confusion and if that was the case that is definitely a buck stop here, HC problem and fault situation. You may well be right.

I've been a critic of Tyrod for his limitations. Today he made plenty of good throws and had in general a good game. Getting the ball to Watkins and Clay demonstrated that we can have a potent office. My problem with him still relates to his ability to read defenses and go through his progressions. But in general I have to acknowledge that he played well'
