row_33 Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 it's nice to invite other countries within closer striking distance to pitch in for a change

Are they equip with a self destruct mechanism? Are they fired and explode upon impact with the water? I can't imagine that they are left intact and lying on the ocean floor (or would some float?) without recovery efforts, since these are not things you would want other nations recovering and looking inside of. It simply doesn't come up. If you are carrying live ordnance, like bombs or other stuff, you are doing so for a reason, like bombing a thing behind a ship, which is towing it. If you are carrying missiles, either air to air or air to ground, there is no problem bringing them back aboard. In two cruises and 300+ missions, I never jettisoned anything. The one thing I do know that would not be brought back aboard was the flares, but the only time I carried them at sea was for a fleet airshow, and I dropped them normally. 1
Deranged Rhino Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 New sanctions going into effect, on the Ayatollah personally. 5

He's advocating a Chinese naval buildup, and Japan violating postwar treaties AND their own constitution with their own naval buildup? While Japan and China are disputing the Senkaku islands? He's Warren G. Harding with much worse hair. Think again. He's reminding other countries of what all we do. As GG stated above, he's most likely trying to firm up sanctions support.

Because it was doing no such thing. Obama gave Iran money to spread around on terrorism and they continued to process uranium with the ultimate goal of nuclear weapons. Obama didn't prevent them from getting nuclear weapons but gave them a guided tour to obtaining them. BTW, you're still an idiot. 2

I'm not sure how the US is compensated as Japan has a brown water navy and the US (as a blue water navy) escorts or intervenes for them.) And whatever other country(ies) we are protecting should pay more? Maybe one of the navy guys here could explain this (compensation, escort, US responsibilities, etc)? Or possibly it his way of highlighting that it isn't the US that directly is impacted? The US is definitely indirectly impacted as something like 25% of the world's energy flows (heh) through there, and if that supply is negatively impacted long term, it could bring on a worldwide depression. I have no specific idea what the purpose of President Trump's tweets were. The one thing I've learned over the last few years is people vastly underestimate Trump, and his tweets usually (not always) are serving a purpose. Our young nation paid the Portuguese protection money to keep the Barbary pirates from attacking our ships.

Probably not, but he has done a good job reminding other countries and other bodies (such as the UN and Nato) that we're the night watchman that protects their ass and they would be wise to remember that before bitching about us.

Ok Trump is a disaster Trump's been a very stand-up guy on Iran. He campaigned on getting out of the agreement, he did. He couldn't impose sanctions on Iran without violating the agreement so he exited the agreement and told everyone why. He's kept his word. Had he stayed in the agreement which was a 10 year deal as I recall, Iran would have been well positioned at that point to build a bomb. He's working to deter that.

You know they have restarted their program, right? Nothing NOW is being done to deter them. Obama stopped them, under Trump they are not building one. Progress? Or Regression?

Until then let's see how it plays out. Iran has big problems as a result of the sanctions and that noose is getting tighter.

Look at what sanctions did to the Iraqi population in the 1990's
