Something to look forward to here...

In the last decade or so, we’ve been taught that the EU model of representative democracy is much more enlightened than the US

While I have sympathy for the original yellow vest protestors (there are reports that they were "infiltrated" by anarchists)  this is a case of socialism works great until you run out of other people's money (to badly paraphrase Margaret Thatcher). The FSA is finally starting to understand this, in Paris of all places!

That seems to be the pattern: righteous, non violent protests infiltrated by a small, violent groups of anarchists who want to cause damage and inflame the situation rather than solve it. That's what we see in our domestic riots/protests as well. And it's why, imo, the left pushed SO HARD for protests and marches the past two years. They want the fringe groups to escalate the violence (so they can blame it on Trump supporters or the other side).

I'd be more sympathetic if the three seconds between the guy struggling with the police and the guy getting curb-checked - y'know, the three seconds where he may have done something to deserve a tune-up - weren"t missing,.

MORE ON THE FRENCH RIOTS:

“There are parallels between what is happening in France and almost every other developed country, including Canada, as comfortable urban elites seek to impose their climate change agenda on a broader population just struggling to pay its bills and earn an honest buck. No amount of hand-wringing over the fate of the planet, be it by the IPCC or by the likes of Ms. Binoche, is going to resonate with people who do not feel the elites have their interests at heart.”

Especially when they don’t. Also, an elite whose main theme is how morally superior it is to its countrymen is in a poor position to call for sacrifice.

My daughter and her friend got back from France a week ago (they went to see the WWII invasion and reclamation sites).

The left early after being accosted and pulled from a cab.  (thank God for my daughter's friend being what he is).  Everything could have been much much worse.

They left early and spent their trip in Dublin instead.

Glad to hear they're okay.
