I'd absolutely trade for Payton. If the Saints are willing to part ways, he's worth a 4th rounder for sure. He's a solid coach and we haven't had one of those in years.

He's another who may be benefiting from having a future HOF QB.

Idk about that. He can flat coach up an offense. He's been burned by horrible drafting on the defensive side and poor cap management, neither of which are his fault.

That said he strikes me as kind of a jerk.

All fair. The saints have over $45m in dead money.

They might be s team that makes a big push if the front office utilizes the cap freedom coming their way and hit in the draft.

They haven't shown that ability recently but if they do the saints could contend

When trading a coach, does the coach need to agree to the trade? How does that even work... I could see him saying oh hell naw

Probably depends on his specific contract. Could have a no trade clause in it.

i think a trade is being discussed, not him getting fired

Not sure exactly how it works, but I don't see Payton accepting being traded to the Bills...or any other team he's not interested in coaching. The Colts I could see.

Payton as OC. His defenses are the worst no matter the DC. If they trade for him, fantasy football at its best, bring along Drew Brees.

I didn't think this possible but he's been inconsistent and frustrating at times this year. A fresh start might be good for him....

Pros: smart, bold, strong culture builder

Cons: loyal to a fault, possibly a little burned out

Sometimes even the best coaches stop getting through to the same players over time...he's been there a long time and has been mostly good for them...it might be time for him and Brees to move on..

see New Orleans and San Diego as prime examples that HOF level Qb's do not automatically mean you make the playoffs every year...
