New coach 2017

We struggle. Whaley on line for 2018

We struggle as new coach lost talent we had and Rex squandered. Whaley out in 2019

New coach struggles 2019

New GM wants his man and the new coach replaced with newer couch.

New gm and new coach continue until 2021 when both are found to be terrible and both gone.

2022 we blow it all up and start from scratch.

But this is the Bills, and the GM doesnt know what the coach's status is. He might guess. But he doesnt know.

And given that, in this Bills organization, the GM and HC are equals it doesnt matter how big the balls you throw on the coach's desk are. He doesnt have to, and shouldnt, listen to you. There is literally nothing the GM can do except get into a huge fight with the HC.

The order would have to come down from the owners. And they might as well fire Rex on the spot then. Because that call neuters the entire team.

Point being that the GM needs to have the ability to fire the coach. Not doing that undermines his ability to be the GM and actually administer cap space. Too many cooks in the kitchen.

This is clearly what is going to happen if you dump Rexy and no one else.

While it will certainly be better than before because the resources are available... a potential hang-up is what kind of influence does the new HC have. Does he have control of his own destiny/career/legacy... or is he going to need to capitulate to Russ Brandon in cut meetings. The power structure here has been a turn-off as much as the $ aspect. We have had 2 coaches (our best 'drought' coaches) voluntarily walk the plank here in 10 years. That should ring alarms.

To get a white whale coach, you need to offer influence/power as much as the $.

Exactly. If Russ and Whaley are out of the picture, Pegs may be able to get a "white whale" coach. Otherwise, you're limited to flawed candidates like Rex or hoping you'll get lucky with a Marrone-type.

This is an interesting point.

I am not in favor of firing Rex, . . . but, if they decide to do so, any prospective candidates will view the job as an inferior job (not only for giving Rex only two years with a substandard QB, numerous injuries and suspensions)

but also because

Any worthwhile candidate will know that there is someone in the front office that does not have the head coach's back and threw the current guy under the bus.

That is exactly the point, if you jump in; you have to jump in with both feet.

Absolutely... and it happened to more than one head coach. The situation is poison.

23 and counting.

Pegs: "It's only year 8".

Russ: "We just need a little more time."

Someone in the front office definitely has the coach's back. A genuine antique knife from Rome and the Pegulas need to find this person or persons and show them the door but the substandard QB is all on Rex - he wanted Tyrod Taylor before he came to Buffalo and if new stories are true he had input into him being signed last year.

Exactly. The ownership or front office directing that would be throwing Rex under the bus and they are not going to do that. That is exactly why the LaConfora report was BS from the beginning. Not at all Pegula's style. They will evaluate after the season no matter what happens this week. Despite the mass hysteria around the fan base this week, Rex will get the season and if I had to bet, at least one more.

The only person guaranteed to leave the organization is the person feeding LaConfora the supposed inside scoop, if Terry finds out who it is.

Pegula's "style" is hogwash.

Lindy ruff was hung onto through an offseason, a half season lockout, only to be fired early in the lockout shortened season. Crowd was becoming ugly at games. Bad timing and wasted 9 months a coach could have been in the fold and preparing.

Regier was a similar thing. Crowd was getting belligerent, and was getting national attention and regier was fired in November, after another season was pretty much shot.

Both moves reeked of indecision and seemed reactionary.

I like Rex. I dont want him fired. But to say they gave him a substandard QB is not fair. TT is starting because of Rex. He brought TT on himself. And as for substandard play, yes TT has been worse this season than last, but his numbers last season were equivalent to RG3's when RG3 won rookie of the year.

If Rex is to remain here he needs to let Whaley hire his own Dcoordinator. If not, Rex needs to go. I dont want him to go. But he would have to go if hes unwilling to objectively look at himself in the mirror and admit HIS defense isnt shaking $h*t.

How's about keeping everything except the GM. Hire someone who can work with Rex and is a real GM. Not someone pushing his own and agenda and players on a coach. Not someone who doesn't take drug and injury history into account when drafting players. We need a new GM, not a new coach or QB.

Because Ryan is a bad coach. Did you read the quote from him saying he started to call plays they didn't practice? Rob Ryan has always been an awful coach. I want him gone as well

I have some sympathy for this view, but it overlooks the fact that Rex is a terrible coach. It is entirely possible that BOTH the coach and GM of the Buffalo Bills are inadequate. In fact that has been the case for most, if not all, of the past 17 years.
