Seantrel Henderson suspended another 10 games

I kinda feel for the guy. I know someone with Crohns and it can be brutal. The fact that he has Crohn's and is an elite athlete is a testament to his fortitude and will to succeed.

My father-in-law died from Chron's Disease.

Henderson should sue the league.

I would sue if I could not obtain an exemption from the specific rule. Seantrel should be advising the Bills (and therefore the League) of the medication(s) he's prescribed.

Now we have no clue as to why they are suspending him - we never get the real truth, just the spin, but if it's because of medical marijuana he has a case. If it's for other recreational stuff - he should be on his own.

Either way it's a shame.

i hate this.. for selfish reasons.. and just wonder though, why treatment for this disease regarding marijuana has not been publicized, written about in medical books.. discussed by the medical professionals. if it has, wish one of them would come forward.

Bills OT Seantrel Henderson facing 10-game suspension for substance abuse policy violation

https://t.co/nM8wngxi8T

Sources informed of his situation say Henderson has officially been informed that he's facing a 10-game suspension for violating the NFL's Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse. He is appealing the ruling and a final decision on the potential suspension will be made this week.

A source added after the second suspension, "He needs cannabis. You can't take pain killers with the way his intestines are."

Henderson raised suspicions when he missed practice this week, with speculation that he was dealing with Crohn's issues. The reality is, he had a son -- Seantrel Jr. -- and was witnessing the birth.

If Henderson's suspension is finalized, he hasn't ruled out litigation to get back on the field. Either way, his status going forward is in doubt. And those teams that didn't trade for him to help solve their tackle issues are likely breathing a sigh of relief.

Henderson' agents calls suspension "heartbreaking," and says no grounds for appeal because no NFL exemption for marijuana. #Bills.

If he's really smoking for his Crohn's then I hope he sues the NFL.

What would be the basis of his suit? Has anyone seen a link where clearly stating that Henderson was specifically prescribed MJ by his Crohn's treatment team? If he doesn't have that, he has no suit. Even with it, he has little chance to win a suit as he knowingly took a banned substance, KNOWING he would get caught and face a 10 game suspension.

What happens when the NFL parades all of the top Crohn's specialists onto the stand and asks them how many times they have prescribed MJ to their Crohn's patients. And what about his own doctors? Will they say that this form of therapy is the only one outside of widely accepted multi-drug therapy for treating acute Crohn's in this particular patient? Other NFL players have been treated successfully without MJ.

This just seems like he continues to smoke of his own free will: he clearly knew the consequences and it didn't matter to him. He's smoking most of his life--before he had Crohn's, one should suspect. If he says the reason he smokes weed now (as opposed to all of the other test-positives over the years)---fine, who cares? Whatever works for him. But I don't see why the Pegulas would keep him. He's a fringe player who will never comply with this NFL rule. Nothing could be more obvious.

Exactly how would he win that suit?

The only explanation is that Henderson or his agent sat on saying something like that in order to placate the league. But that's a stretch.

Damn! We have a Lawyer and a Doctor who knows the science of Crohn's and the merits of a potential lawsuit. We are truly blessed on TSW.

Henderson likely can't afford to take the league to court....even if it were allowed to proceed that far.....and the NFL could use an intern to handle this case.

Because.....Again........it's a collectively bargained issue.

These are simple questions. Don't need to be a doctor or lawyer to venture an answer.

Go ahead. Join the discussion. It won't hurt you...

Yeah because the NFLPA and players haven't taken the League to court and make them spend money on any collectively bargained issues recently ooo wait yep they have

Full story on #Bills Seantrel Henderson suspended for 10 games is now out. Link: https://t.co/I61iutkXde

Henderson's agent, Brian Fettner, called the league's decision "heart breaking," and added he cannot appeal the suspension because the NFL doesn't allow an exemption for medical marijuana use.

"His situation is unique, but the drug policy doesn't line up with the uniqueness. It's disappointing," Fettner said.

"The reality is, the NFL's position has been if you need medical marijuana then you're too sick to play," he added. "But that's just not the case for Seantrel Henderson."

Fettner called the NFL's reasoning to ban marijuana murky because it is legal in numerous states across America. He also questioned why the league doesn't consider marijuana to be an effective treatment in certain cases.

"They'll give you pain-killers by the bottle, which are far, far worse than cannabis," Fettner said. "For some reason, the NFL isn't there yet."

He said Henderson hasn't given up on continuing his playing career, but acknowledged his client faces a weighty decision.

"The reality of it is, it's a question of personal wealth and pain management," Fettner said.

A lawsuit would not surprise me here and I think he has a chance to present a successful case irrespective of the CBA.

I sure hope the league just gets rid of this stupid marijuana rule...recreational or medical.

Would MUCH rather have the players using pot instead of alcohol to wind down or anything else for that matter

But the beer sponsors probably would be upset.. Can't have people smoking the herb cause they won't drink as much.. Can't have that can we

Na.. just keep the players on pain killers and let them hit the booze.. It just makes so much sense now doesn't it

Henderson should sue the league.

Well, the CBA allows this.......suspension. However, a good lawyer could drum up a pretty good case on the civil rights basis, and overturn the CBA and the NFL's policy here. Medical mj might be the right treatment for him. Perhaps an Independent Medical Opinion (IMO) should be used by the NFL in such cases. (I borrowed that term from my professional career, where a union contract I was familiar with had various roles for IMO's) I think such a standard could be fair to all concerned.
