Gray Beard Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 I thought Hall of Fame was for "players that changed the game." The penalty for going out of bounds on kick coverage is the Tasker Penalty. He changed the game.
metzelaars_lives Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 I used to think he'd never get in but with Ray Guy getting in, the NFL has shown that they're open to letting the gimmicky guy get in.
eball Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Well, he could always get in as a broadcaster...
GunnerBill Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Well, he could always get in as a broadcaster... He will be waiting a while for that call.....
PromoTheRobot Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Tasker put special teams players on the map, so to speak. For that alone he deserves to be in.
Spurna Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 I remember on some old NFL highlights VHS tape, there was a video of Tasker alone in a locker room talking to the camera about what playing football means to him. It was badass and I wish I could find it again. Dude was so pumped.
Saxum Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Does the resume exclude yellow flags thrown his way? How about "Pro Bowls by reputation"? I loved him, but not so sure if he belongs in the HOF. Neither are silly comments from Bills fans fortunately. Reuben Brown's reputation was trashed by media and some fans followed the piper. Every Bears fan I know from that era thought he did a tremendous job on field and in locker room. Reuben convinced front office staff to hire Rust Brown after he was 'promoted' to management and the health of their team became much better. And regarding Steve he belongs in but it is in majority the media who votes him in and we have seen how screwed up their judgement is. Most could not get an internship on a football team. I thought Hall of Fame was for "players that changed the game." The penalty for going out of bounds on kick coverage is the Tasker Penalty. He changed the game. They used to put three players on to block him and often would still get to ball carrier. really marv? Remember type of coach Marv was - I am sure a lot of special teams coaches talked to Marv after games.

While I loved the guy, I'm not ignoring what I saw on the field. Granted, I paid less attention when he left the Bills, but I'm on the side of the fence that feels he often lived on reputation. I'm not alone and I wasn't even in WNY to hear what the media thought so I was influenced only by watching the games. But you are welcome top your opinion. He's not in the HOF, so apparently you're in the minority so far. Edited November 19, 2016 by Augie
NoSaint Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Steve Tasker changed the game by elevating special teams to an equal status with offense and defense. I don't know about THAT but it's more appreciated
Dragonborn10 Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 This will sound like a contradiction. Ruben Brown has a HOF resume but I don't think that he is a HOF player. Good take. We here criticize the ones we know best. Football is not baseball though. Jeter did not earn a third of his all-star appearances. Brown earned most of those 9 ProBowls. He was never as dominant and the fans would have wanted but he was a technician, efficient, and incredibly consistent.

Two totally different methods of getting selected.
BobbyC81 Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 True or not, HOF? I vote YES! I see he didn't make the final 24. Veteran's committee might be his best shot. I clicked on the link to see the 2016 nominees and saw that there was a fan vote so I went there. I guess because the next vote drops the list to 15, it said Vote for 15. I reviewed the list and initially the only name that jumped out at me as HOF worthy was Terrell Owens. I clicked on Vote and it said Vote for 14 more. I could make a case that a few more may be HOF worthy like Roger Craig, John Lynch and Terrell Davis but most of the players I would consider as just Very Good. I believe the NFL is on the road to a watering down of the HOF by voting too many players in. I should've been able to vote for only who I wanted to that I thought was worthy. They vote 6 modern day players in each year plus one from the veterans committee plus contributors. What if there aren't 6 worthy players? Baseball did it right a couple years ago where because of who became eligible, including those with steroid accusations, nobody was voted in.
That's No Moon Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 This will sound like a contradiction. Ruben Brown has a HOF resume but I don't think that he is a HOF player. "Holding...#79...Offense...."
Rico Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 "Holding...#79...Offense...."Plus no matter what revisionists will try to say, he quit on the team.
26CornerBlitz Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Great Bill of the 90's era, but not a HOF player IMO.
Talley56 Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 I used to think he'd never get in but with Ray Guy getting in, the NFL has shown that they're open to letting the gimmicky guy get in. Yeah and even Bills fans tend to disagree with me on this but I feel like if Ray Guy got in Tasker absolutely has to get in.
klos63 Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 really marv? I seem to recall after SB XXV that Parcells said they spent an incredible amount of time preparing for Tasker for the big game. I think Marv was very accurate in that statement.
gobillsinytown Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 IMO the two best special teams players in the 90's were Steve Tasker and Reyna Thompson (Giants). There were other return specialists who could score and of course that can make a big difference in a game. But there's a lot more to special teams play than that and I think Tasker had a bigger "play to play" impact than anyone else in that era.
hondo in seattle Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 This will sound like a contradiction. Ruben Brown has a HOF resume but I don't think that he is a HOF player. Contradiction or not, I agree whole-heartedly. I'd rather see Tasker get selected than Brown.
