hondo in seattle
They took a team above .500 and brought them to .500. Not exactly a winning formula. How many owners are instantly successful? How many owners find their long term GM, HC and QB in their first year of ownership? It takes time to build a winner. And there will be some trial-and-error along the way. I have no idea if Terry and Kim will prove to be good owners. At this point, I can only hope.
eball
Philly's D is 11th in yards against and 10th in points against.
John from Riverside
That is kind of the way of things isnt it? Wait long enough and every one fails in one form or another except for a select few teams
BADOLBILZ
I think Gilmore, Darby, Seymour and Ro-Co would be the top 4 CB's in Philadelphia's rotation. White would probably crack the top 3 by himself as well. So people who think our CB's suck ain't seen nothin'. When he went all in on Leodis and Ron Brooks in free agency........guys the Bills couldn't eject fast enough......that said it all about the desperate situation in THEIR secondary. Bleeding Bills Blue
Philly's D is 11th in yards against and 10th in points against. So... pretty good. All things considered for them as a whole though. They dumped maxwell, murray, and bradfords contracts. Moved up to get Wentz. Got the extra pick back from the bradford deal. They're set up nicely moving forward if Wentz develops. So far - he looks fairly mediocre.

Schwartz was a long-time mediocre DC and really isn't a great DC by any means now but the high roster turnover and lack of practice time afforded is favoring simpler, well executed schemes. BringBackOrton
Shameless Indisputable. How many owners are instantly successful? The Titans' new owner took 2 years to find Mariota. Those are the last 3.

bobobonators
We keep referring to the Bills D under schwartz as if it was the holy grail of defenses. It wasnt. And 1 good yr isnt a pattern or standard. Looking at the years surrounding that 1 good yr id say that was the exception.

Doc
Sounds like the Pegulas should work on getting a high first in order to do so. Depends on the year. If they had the 1st overall next year, they wouldn't be getting a franchise guy.
Freddie's Dead
Schwartz is a great defensive coach. Schwartz and Wade Phillips are 1-2 in the league. Didn't Wade Phillips coach the Bills once? I seem to remember...

That's what the Raiders probably thought in 2014, not with the 1st overall but with a top 5 pick. Instead, they got a future HoFer AND a franchise guy. BringBackOrton
Carr was a 2nd rounder. Who is your Derek Carr for 2017? Could be Trubinsky or Mahomes. The bottom line is having a high pick means you get very talented players and the pick of QB's. Getting a high doesn't mean you're screwed when there's no clear #1 overall. You just keep trying. It's that easy. Edited December 7, 2016 by jmc12290

Getting a high doesn't mean you're screwed when there's no clear #1 overall. You just keep trying. It's that easy. It's easier said than done. For instance, in that 2014 draft, there were 3 QB's taken before Carr, none of whom are any great shakes. And if any of those 3 teams knew how good Carr would be, they'd have drafted him in the 1st. The Raiders are lucky that none of them did.

The Raiders are lucky that none of them did. Sure they are. Their consolation prize would've been Mack if someone else had taken Care. That's not bad. It's easier said than done, but it's really not. Having a high 1st pick increases your chance of finding the best QB, on the whole. The logical approach is to lose enough games to maximize your chance of stumbling on a Winston, Mariota, Bridgewater, Carr, Wentz, Dak, Matty Ice, Stafford, Cam, Luck etc etc etc. Because the bottom line is that the team that picked after the Raiders 2nd pick in 2014 had a zero percent chance of drafting Carr.
