wnysteel Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 drove around it on my commute. messed traffic up everywhere. the smoke was (and still is, 9 hours later) unbelievable.
Seasons1992 Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 Just saw this on another forum I'm on with a guy from WNY. That's going to be a mess for a while. Another part of my childhood is gone (probably for the best in this situation).

Marv's Neighbor Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 How are we ever going to get jobs back to WNY if everything is burned down?
Helpmenow Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Cause yet determined. I read somebody mentioned a light bulb fell on some combustible material. Please
mrags Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Welcome to the home of the future new, New Era Field.
Hammered a Lot Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Cause yet determined. I read somebody mentioned a light bulb fell on some combustible material. Please I know a guy who worked for a company who changed out old light bulbs with energy efficient ones. He said they changed the bulbs out when the lights where on. He would wear thick heavy duty gloves as the bulbs would be 200 + degrees. So I think it is possible that the bulb could have started the fire.

So I think it is possible that the bulb could have started the fire. Yeah they were reporting that the light bulb was put on some cardboard. at 200+ degrees that's not a smart move.
Guffalo Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Welcome to the home of the future new, New Era Field. Exactly what I was thinking, the only setback is the environmental cleanup on that whole corridor.
Marv's Neighbor Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Welcome to the home of the future new, New Era Field. Considering all the ground contamination there, it wouldn't be the best spot to tailgate. You could easily tell if someone did that, once their eyebrows fell out!
QCity Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 The fire is on the east side of Route 5, not the large portion of the old plant on the lake. It's right next to residential homes.
Helpmenow Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 I heard there were cars and boats inside as well Any airborne asbestos flying around folks? Transite
Wacka Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 (edited) I work at the Botanical Gardens. This morning when I got to McKinley Circle, there was a smokey haze and it smelled like an electrical fire (burning plastic). The smell permeated the building. We did not open to the public today and I went home about 11 AM. The smoke was all the way down Dorrance Avenue and the smell was present up to about where the 90 crosses Potters Rd. Augie Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 The fire is on the east side of Route 5, not the large portion of the old plant on the lake. It's right next to residential homes. If they came to tell me to evacuate, they would find I was already long gone.
Mike in Horseheads Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 I just saw it on the National News and thought same thing as other have posted. New home for the stadium, how far is that from the infamous Lackawanna Dome that never made it?
BUFFALOKIE Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 The fire is on the east side of Route 5, not the large portion of the old plant on the lake. It's right next to residential homes. That is one heckuva camera. Zoom in on stuff in that photo, for real!

New home for the stadium, how far is that from the infamous Lackawanna Dome that never made it? Are you sure that you didn't mean the Lancaster Dome that never materialized?
