Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick sprained his MCL in Sunday vs. Miami, per source. Injury not considered serious, but could impact Jets QB decision.

Fitz needs to just retire. He turned a backup QB skillset into many years as a starter which is above and beyond what he could have ever expected for his career coming from the ivy league to the NFL. He has like 15 kids. Get out now while you still somewhat have your health. Hes highly intelligent, he could probably make just as much money starting his own business or working on wall Street. The fact that he is still in this league is silly

Ryan Fitzpatrick is the American dream. He's been barely good enough to hold on to roster spots at times but has had incredible luck with starters getting injured.

He's turned a middling skill set in $51 million in career earnings. It's bonkers, good on him.

Agreed. He'd do great in business, he should open a pastry shop that sells all types of different flavored turnovers. Fitzy's Turnovers. As far as Petty is concerned, if Fitz can play I doubt we'll see Petty. He was a one read college QB who needs a lot of time before any team would put him on the field willingly.

51 million over a 12 year career where 113 of 122 games were as starting QB? That's pocket change in this league.

He's 69th in career passing yards (league history). 70th in career TDs--more than Culpepper, Vick, etc. and only 3 behind Aikman and 5 behind Flacco.

He's been taking his lumps and big hits for years. There are guys on every team--including the Bills who make a lot more money for doing a lot less than a guy like Fitz.

He's earned that 4+ million a year.

Fitz keeps playing because he can. He's still better than a lot of other options out there, and teams desperate for a competent guy who can keep a franchise afloat will find him or others like him.

He's never going to win a championship, and maybe never win a playoff game. What he does do, unfortunately, is keep a bad team from collapsing completely and getting the #1 or #2 pick overall in the same year as when a great college QB talent is available. Many teams like the Bills keep bumping along, somewhere between 6-10 and 9-7, never sucking completely but never succeeding either. Team like this, and Fitz, are made for each other. Mediocre, but usually entertaining.

Just what we need. Petty starts winning and the "why didn't we draft Bryce" threads begin. Hack must be really slow learning plays. He seemed like a sure fire lottery pick 3 yrs ago.

Just a quick correction here. He has played in 122 games and indeed was the starter for 113 but he has been in the league since 05. So his teams have played 185 games in that time. For 63 games he earned that money holding a clipboard which ain't bad work if you can get it. Also through his first 3 years he played 6 games and as a 7th round pick made peanuts. Once he began starting and "taking lumps and big hits" he has earned the lion share of that money making your 4 million number a slight misrepresentation.
