Navy builds most expensive surface combatant ever.

Navy puts two guns of a brand new "Advanced Gun System" design on the ship. Gun serves one purpose - long-range land attack - and fires only one kind of shell - the "Long Range Land Attack Projectile" (LRLAP).

Navy builds and launches ship.

Now that ship is launched, Navy decides the ammunition for the guns - the only ammo the guns fire - is too expensive to buy at $800,000 per shell. And cancels entire billion-dollar LRLAP program.

So the $4B USS Zumwalt, just launched, with two of the most advanced guns ever afloat, has nothing to shoot.

How much for some really cool pew pew noises in place of ammo?

There is always harsh language that the brave crew of the Zumwalt can hurl at our nation's adversaries.

Emotional wounds are the most devastating!

No no, It's a lie. It's all about gun control.

I saw that ship being built while in Maine... Very cool. Maybe until they can figure out what to bolt down to the Zumwalt, they could lease it out to charity events?

Perhaps the guns can be refitted to fire bureaucrats?

I was thinking it could just fire money.

Hell, 220lb of quarters is only about $4,500, and has a slightly better target effect than firing nothing.

Reminded me of my favorite SF homeless guy.

Since we built the gun and supplied the boat maybe we should get the Saudi's to pay for the ammo. It's only fair.

Man, you guys are really slipping.

The only reason this was held up was to wait for Hillary to get sworn in, at which time the government will approve the purchase of the ammo once the appropriate 'donations' are made to the Clinton Foundation.

Just two more months before America is open for business again.
