D. L. Hot-Flamethrower Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Nice to see a positive national story about the Bills. The squad has definatly earned it. I hope they can continue the surge into the playoffs.
TheBillsOrDie Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Don't hurl stones at me, but I have never heard of 538. Am I slow or something?
The Big Cat Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Don't hurl stones at me, but I have never heard of 538. Am I slow or something? Are you posting from early 2008? If so, it's no biggie.
Gugny Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Don't hurl stones at me, but I have never heard of 538. Am I slow or something? It's just another name for ESPN.
LeviF Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Don't hurl stones at me, but I have never heard of 538. Am I slow or something? Bunch of hack columnists who know how to use Microsoft Excel. The creator of 538 is a weenie.
dave mcbride Posted October 18, 2016 Author Posted October 18, 2016 Are you posting from early 2008? If so, it's no biggie. LOL! Bunch of hack columnists who know how to use Microsoft Excel. The creator of 538 is a weenie. Nate Silver is great. Signal to Noise is a terrific book too.
The Big Cat Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Bunch of hack columnists who know how to use Microsoft Excel. The creator of 538 is a weenie. ...who's almost always right.
dorquemada Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Don't hurl stones at me, but I have never heard of 538. Am I slow or something? More of a political wonk site but their sports coverage/predictions are surprisingly not horrible
Dirtbag Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Nate Silver is great. Signal to Noise is a terrific book too. plus, harry enten -- their senior political writer -- is a big bills fan.
dave mcbride Posted October 18, 2016 Author Posted October 18, 2016 More of a political wonk site but their sports coverage/predictions are surprisingly not horrible Silver did sports before politics. He invented PECOTA. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PECOTA ...who's almost always right. Ha! True.
Heitz Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Gotta like this: the Bills lead the NFL in rushing yards (847), yards per carry (6.27), rushing touchdowns (8), and rushing first downs (42) since the beginning of Week 3. That’s the most by any team in a four-game stretch since the final four games of the 2012 Seahawks’ regular season.
The Big Cat Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Silver did sports before politics. He invented PECOTA. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PECOTA Ha! True. He's a weenie, sure. But nobody does what he does better. And since we're talking about math here, that's not an opinion. Also, I don't know what's motivating Levi's nerd rage turned-anti-538 bias. They're niche reporting. Not bible, but it represents a new wave of journalism, and the old dogs would love to have reporters/columnists with the data/stats acumen of the 538 crew. It's a very unique blend of skills for a world increasingly obsessed with data and clamoring to make sense of it. Why the hate? I think I can guess.
blitzboy54 Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Bunch of hack columnists who know how to use Microsoft Excel. The creator of 538 is a weenie. Single handedly predicted 2 presidential elections for every state including House and Senate results within .01% of how it happened. Nate Silver is a prodigy. So pretty much the exact opposite of what you said.
