we've been tracking the defense pretty closely. And it sounds like we're all impressed with LorAx; so why does buffalo rumblings have the league leader in sacks with a negative pass rush grade after 5 weeks????

That's a great question! I wonder what Trapasso has to say about the minus grade.LOL

You're right, it was not a good game against the Jets. But Fitz was on fire. I've never - before or since - seen him throw with that kind of accuracy. He was something like 9 of 10 on so called 50-50 throws and frequently putting it where the DB couldn't make a play.

No that is possible - he sucks and always has sucked according to some experts on board who are on the short list, Greg Williams style, for some scouting departments. Just as he cannot thrown beyond XX yards despite visual evidence to the contrary. It is not possible for him to be 'in the zone'.

Took lessons from Jerry Sullivan on how to make friends and influence people.

Haven't seen this mentioned, and feel like many on this board would like to hear that DT has simplified things for the defense. Doesn't provide too much detail, but we really have looked great on D minus the Jets game.

Still have to give a ton of credit to Rob for the red zone defense, though.

I will update after the full slate of week 6 games are done (ie. tomorrow morning) but I think we can expect to see a nice bump in some categories.

Don't mean to steal your thunder, but unless Arizona or the Jets do something miraculous tonight the Bills will finish W6 with the #1 defense in red zone scoring TD percentage (33.3%), and the #6 offense (73.3%).

Last year in the same category they were 21st on D (60%) and 24th on O (50%).

Bills' defense keeping it simple under Dennis Thurman
Gone were the exotic blitzes for which the Ryan brothers were known. No longer were the Bills gambling with fancy schemes and rolling coverages to the extreme. Instead, it became old-school, simple football.

I still think they are doing combo coverages in the secondary, and throwing a weird look at a QB once in a while is a nice way to mess with their rhythm.

@4JoshReed

#Bills D with 3 more sacks with 20 now in the season. They had 21 last season.

That's a telling stat right there. The night and day difference from last year to this is fantastic  This is also without Dareus and Shaq as of yet.

So after week 6:

Yard per game allowed: Rank - 12th (Up 3)
Pass YPG allowed: Rank - 14th (Up 3)
Rush YPG allowed: Rank - 15th (Down 2)
Points per game allowed: Rank - 5th (Unchanged)

3rd down %: Rank - 5th (Up 6)
Sacks: Rank - 2nd (Up 2)
Takeaways: Rank - 2nd (Unchanged)

Points Per Drive: Rank - 8th (Up 1)
% of drives ending in scores: Rank - 10th (Up 1)

As suspected some nice bumps this week - 3rd down defense particularly impressive.

Looks like the profile of a bend-but-don't-break defense.

Kind of...but still in the top half (almost top third) in total yardage allowed, and tremendous in the "big play" statistics (turnovers, sacks, 3rd downs).
