Week 5: Rams' Game Preparation - Inactives Announced

@MatthewFairburn

Asked Jeff Fisher if there was any disappointment in Jared Goff not being on the field given what Carson Wentz has done. He said, "Uh, no."

Pretty poor phrasing of the question -- what else would Fisher say? How about, "why isn't Goff playing and putting up the same sort of numbers as other rookie QBs this season, when he was thought to be the more NFL-ready QB?" Fisher still has to give a PC answer, but the answer would be much more interesting.

No, it doesn't rate highly in FPI's matchup quality, but Sunday's game in L.A. features two teams on surprising surges. It's also projected to be one of the closest games of Week 5. ESPN: FPI Game Rater

9. Bills at Rams

Sunday (4:25 p.m. ET, CBS)

Matchup quality: 42 out of 100

FPI win projection: Bills, 56 percent

Who would have thought after Week 1 that the Bills and Rams would be entering this game with five wins combined, including wins against the Cardinals (by both), Seahawks and Patriots? Which team’s surprise run will continue? FPI gives the Bills a 56 percent chance to win in Los Angeles, but the game is projected to be one of the closest in Week 5.

Buffalo (2-2) @ Los Angeles (3-1)
Remarkably, the Rams are winners of three straight, and the recipe is a dominating defense and an efficient offense. For the Bills, two surprising wins over the Cardinals and Pats have them on the upswing. This defense is starting to look a lot more like a Rex Ryan production with a lot of creative blitz looks that are once again creating pressure on the QB. They are back to straightforward ground and pound in the run game too. Surprisingly, the Rams dominant defensive front has not been that strong against the run. They love to penetrate, so look for a lot of traps and pulling to exploit that. Both QB’s need to be on their toes as Rams DC Gregg Williams likes to be just as aggressive and creative as Rex.

Bills are a hot upset pick over Rams

It appears Buffalo's back-to-back wins caught the attention of our experts. A pair of insiders pegged Buffalo over Los Angeles as their biggest upset of Week 5.

Matt Bowen, NFL writer: Bills over Rams. The Bills have played lights-out defense over the past two weeks, and I like the matchup here against QB Case Keenum and a Rams offense that just can't get Todd Gurley going on the ground. Take Buffalo and the 2.5 points.

Aaron Schatz, editor-in-chief of Football Outsiders: Bills over Rams. The Rams might be 3-1, but they really haven't played very good football so far. They're just 24th in the Football Outsiders' DVOA ratings and 29th in ESPN's FPI. The Bills might be 2-2, but their offense has found its rhythm in the past two games, and they now rank 10th in both DVOA and FPI.
