dayman Posted October 1, 2016 Author Posted October 1, 2016 Also, while I would never argue any QB we've drafted over the relevant time period is any good, I would argue that it would be hard to tell. We've been drafting like a Rex Ryan team long before Rex Ryan was our coach.
John from Riverside Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 It is a small and not great list to be sure....there is no disputing that

Wing Man Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Easley started out as a decent wide receiver but evolved into one of our best special teams players. Now his career is winding down as his body is breaking down. I have no qualms about him.

r00tabaga Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Ahhh, Ko "freaking" Simpson... The pride of South Carolina! Memories.
dayman Posted October 1, 2016 Author Posted October 1, 2016 (edited) Almost all these guys panned out or stuck around a while. Panned out or stuck around a while? I shutter to think what it would look like to put a list of WRs that went after these guys together.... Not really though, and I don't really mean that as a fair statement. But the point stands, we haven't invested in a passing game. We haven't had a passing game. Edited October 1, 2016 by dayman
SJDK Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 (edited) That receiver list as depressing. At some point you'd think probability would have us luck into a good one.. right? It's crazy and when you think about it. we drafted spiller when we had Fred and marshawn (demarius Thomas or Dez Bryant and Antonio brown were drafted after). One of our biggest mistakes ever. Who would have thrown to them anyway... 28 years as a fan and this is what I'm thinking about. Edited October 1, 2016 by SJDK

Freddie's Dead Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 TJ Graham is by far the worst pick. We traded up for that POS and passed on both Russell Wilson and Captain Kirk.
NoSaint Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Panned out or stuck around a while? I shutter to think what it would look like to put a list of WRs that went after these guys together.... Not really though, and I don't really mean that as a fair statement. But the point stands, we haven't invested in a passing game. We haven't had a passing game. Yea- if hardy, graham, Easley, and Goodwin strike you as successful picks at WR i would hate to ask what busts look like! To your point though - tie in the lack of investment at TE too outside clay in free agency and it shouldn't be shocking that we've struggled. Chan worked miracles when you think about his offense that featured fitz (7th round backup qb), chandler (mid season waiver claim), and then Stevie, jones and Nelson (nothing higher than a 7). Freddie as a udfa was at least an established guy at that point.... but that's neither here nor there. Just always shocked me. Hell he even had bell at LT as a 7th rounder
Bleeding Bills Blue Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Yeah - strange that we haven't really invested picks in that position... We certainly used to. Moulds, Price, even Josh reed. Thats a 1 and two 2's on WRs in a like 4 or 5 year period. At the same token - we've drafted a receiver in each of the past 3 drafts. 1 cost 2 first roudn picks. Then a 6th and 7th in listenbee and Dez lewis. When you overspend on one, its hard to keep spending tons of draft resources on more. Some decent free agents next year - especially if we decide we want to use a lot of draft capital on a QB.

No need to compare apples to apples. Edited October 1, 2016 by dulles
KOKBILLS Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 WR's are really not all that important when you're trying to win a SB... In 1970...

There were actually 8 picks in the first five rounds devoted to the position if you include the extra first and fourth used to obtain Watkins
