right - he does, and he needs to impact the passing game. im not arguing against that -- im just saying that comparing him on the field to sammys presence..... well.... hes not supposed to be as impactful, and some of that impact is in different ways too. thats what specifically had me mentioning it.

Fair enough.

I am just finding it more and more criminal that Clay has the most practical guarantees, 4th most guaranteed money percentage and a top 7 average salary at his position, yet is #138 with yards in the NFL. I realize that TT's limitations, Clay's inability to stay healthy, and the playcalling all play a factor in that. But it's bothersome.

He is being paid well enough to be treated as a #2 receiver in our offense, IMO. Similar to Maclin/Kelce, Cooks/Fleener, Hilton/Allen, Green/Eifert. And all those guys crush him. 24th on the WR pay list and he's 25th on the TE play list. I don't think he contributes in other ways nearly enough to justify his pay.

Being open on a scramble drill does no good if you aren't in your quarterback's field of vision, which becomes much more limited as they are rapidly flushed to one side of the field. You certainly don't want to flow into space where you're asking your quarterback to throw across his body on the run.

Now I am really confused. Are talking about the same video?

I am talking about video number 1.

- Tyrod Taylor is scrambling to the side line.....to me it looks like he is clearly looking at Clay to see what he is going to do.

- Clay is running a route (towards the sideline the same direction as TT) and he continues with his route and the defenders have him bracketed one in front one in back.

If Clay makes a sharp turn directly upfield Tyrod isnt throwing across his body....it does not appear that there is even a defender in the area unless one of the bracket defenders breaks off

Why did Clay not break upfield in that first video? It would seem to me that a sharp cut up the middle seam would have freed him from that double bracket and Tyrod could have just thrown it to a spot......to me it looked like Tyrod WAS looking to get the ball to him but just ran out of real estate (the sideline) and time.

I said the same thing when I saw it . One quick cut back toward the seam would of sprung him wide open and although it would of went across TT's body it's an easy throw and probably would of scored. JFH for OC!!!!

tyrod isnt scrambling is he? its a designed roll out with routes mirroring the rollout at two levels.

tyrod sees clay covered and dumps it underneath pretty quickly as the read should be to give the back space to work. clay is barely out of his break and you expect him to freelance up field and have tyrod "throw it to a spot"? The way you described it as seeming to be tyrod scrambling and running out of time like a broken play I genuinely thought you were talking about a video that didnt display for me or something.

Sounds like we expected them to scheme for him - so we didnt really gameplan much to use him. He isn't watkins... You can scheme to cover him.

If Lynn expected them to scheme for Clay and designed his gamplan around that, well thats chess.

This is why that play by Salas vs the Jets was great instinct, He knew the routes were going right and TT got flushed out to the left, He changes directions gets up field and give TT the opportunity to make magic happen

Good point.. but we are paying him a HUGE salary to run a lot of deep routes that WRs typically run.

at 7.6m per year he would be 24th on the WR pay list. just for a gauge on how huge that deal actually is.

its large for a TE, but its hardly huge by NFL standards.

Which makes him a top tier #2 receiver and borderline #1, in terms of resources allocated. He needs to be utilized as such.

He should be compared to like paid players not Sammy since he is on rookie deal.

In terms of pay vs performance he is very, very highly paid and we should be getting more out of him.

Breaking down should not be used with Clay for Clay appears to be breaking down.

I would keep a close eye on Jeremy Spinkle from Arkansas. He is much much better than Henry who was taken this year early
