VanCity Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 He's the Dinosaur in Dinosaur BBQ. All jokes aside, he's the kind of a guy I'd be good with as the czar, but preferably not the coach. Like Rex, he comes in with some great seasons under his belt, but he is quite removed from them. He is hard-nosed (which I truly believe this team needs) and a disciplinarian, but he's a short term answer due to age. The kind of coach this team needs is a Mike Tomlin. Young, hungry, smart, tough. I know they don't grow on trees, but Coughlin would solely be a stop-gap.
dwight in philly Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Rex has a contract and he will be paid per those terms. Beside that, the BILLS can do whatever they want, whenever. even if pegula owns both the bills and sabres?.
#34fan Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Sorry, but this news hit me like a 100mg Viagra ... If false, I've been brutally led-on, teased, and left wanting by some cruel wench.... If true, Tom Coughlin is the PERFECT choice for a mid season replacement... Did I say perfect?... Because I actually meant PERFECT!... They could be waiting for NE.... To see how Rex's FAKE 46 does vs. a backup QB... They'll start getting things in order if the AZ game ends as predicted.
John from Riverside Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 One thing is for sure.......you will have no Karlos Williams or Marcel D. Types on this team with that coach. He is Rex polar opposite
Mike in Horseheads Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 I'm calling BS. The spotters at Buffalo Intl would have seen him long before and alerted us.

nucci Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 if true. And based on Coughlin's statements post giants that he wanted too spend time with his family. and was done coaching, The fact that any owner parading a possible coaching candidtae around OBD and a big name no less. wouldn't be a great look for the currently employed staff there. I don't see Pegula being that cold. Unless the ryan bros are leaving bery bery soon. I don't see this. My guess would be this is nor for HC. but president of football operations like the Tuna was in miami ( and failed) could be in play? or new GM? I recall him saying the Giants forced him out without actually firing him and he wanted to continue coaching even if pegula owns both the bills and sabres?. He can but not in the same city....I think
John from Riverside Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Sadly, for all of us, those are the two guys we miss most from last season EXACTLY On a Tom Coughlan team these guys (or someone of their talent) would be available to us because Tom would not tolerate this BS I take up for bills players and staff (overly so I admit) but even I am starting to get pissed at non availability of players because of off the field issues.....millionare babies
Bangarang Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Wouldn't be a bad idea as a consultant.
Wayne Cubed Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Ummm, does everyone not know that Coughlin actually has a job with the NFL? He's Senior Advisor to Football Operations. He visits teams and has been visiting teams to improve the game overall. I highly doubt this has anything to do with in-season change or becoming a czar. Just probably part of his job.
billykaykay Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 I recall him saying the Giants forced him out without actually firing him and he wanted to continue coaching He can but not in the same city....I think He went for head coaching job interviews.
LeGOATski Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Too old. Already started declining as a coach. He would probably fail in Buffalo, just like everyone else. SectionC3 Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 (edited) I'll bite. I think this is bogus. But I think something has been up at OBD. I live in OP, and early last Saturday morning I noticed a limo parked outside a local coffee shop. The driver was standing outside drinking a cup of coffee from a different establishment, which led me to believe he was waiting for someone inside. I was heading into the coffee shop as it was, and the presence of the limo at that hour was very odd, so I wondered who I would see inside. Turns out it was a prominent Bills exec who, based on attire, looked to be headed somewhere out of town. To be clear, I don't know that the limo was for the Bills exec. (Both the limo and the exec were gone when I left the coffee shop.) I still think the Coughlin story here is bogus, but maybe the exec was entertaining -- on a day where it turns out Rex was out of town. Who knows. Edited September 24, 2016 by BuffaloPowerEye
Best Player Available Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 I recall him saying the Giants forced him out without actually firing him and he wanted to continue coaching He can but not in the same city....I think i,think you are right. he said he wanted to be out of coaching for 16. and would consider a 3-4 year job. In 2017. He also said because of his age and short timespan he doubted anyone would want him. maybe he was/is in town for some goofy network thing. And Pegula is picking his brain.
baskingridgebillsfan Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 if they want to hire him as a consultant to look over the organization from top to bottom I love it. It would be great for the Peluga's to get a full report from a man who has lived and breathed the sport for 40 years. If he is being considered as a full time football czar maybe , he could give them a few good years and set up a structure that could be in place for many years. If it is to come in as some sort of interim coach , not sure what that accomplishes
boater Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 (edited) I'm calling BS. The spotters at Buffalo Intl would have seen him long before and alerted us. He could have driven. He has WNY ties. He was football coach at RIT. He even coached the football classes for ordinary students. My friends from that era say he is a first class person. He may have been in the area and on spur of the moment called TP. Edited September 24, 2016 by boater
Fadingpain Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Likely a consultant Which is perfect. Pegula is starting to get it. Took him a while with the Sabres too.
