The average NFL team runs about 70 plays a game, for reference.

After reading some more about Roman, he seems like he's a big student of Bill Walsh. While he was in SF he ordered loads of SF offensive meeting film from when Walsh was there. He would spend hours and hours pouring over the film, apparently. And I think I remember watching something about Walsh who would ask his QBs to learn about 200 plays for a game.

Nope still have my point.... I think this new "simplified" offense will still fail and it is not about the number of plays installed or any other reason like that.

I think it could succeed. Its too late to install a new offense, but I hope Lynn adds some bubble screens to Watkins, some quick slants, more easy high percentage passes that can get a few yards, move the chains and get Tyrod into a rhythm early. Build his confidence. It drives me crazy that defenses play 10 yards off Watkins and we refuse to feed him at the line like his college coordinators did to make defenses pay the price for guarding against the deep ball.

However, I do not expect the "new" offense to look all that different.

Bills nation talking about Anthony Lynn be all:

Make the offense simple, but make sure the following are included:

* Counter trap (we have guards that can move)

* If you are running the ball repeatedly, Tyrod needs to be under center and use play action pass (it doesn't seem to be effective in the shotgun/read option)

* Screen pass

* Play action pass under center...did I say that?

* Pick plays (not the illegal ones...the "legal type" that NE utilizes so well.)

* Timing routes

*Play action pass under center...did I say that? I forget.

I expect to see minimal delay of game penalties and/or burned time outs because plays are coming in late or they have any personnel group confusion.

New OC Anthony Lynn wants Buffalo Bills' offense to run at faster pace: http://trib.al/FCdp6Po

It wil run faster. Lynn will be upstairs and send the play in directly too the QB. as opposed to Roman who got the play call from the booth, then sent the call in.

Yes. I am aware of that and I expect smoother operations to be one of the benefits of Lynn being upstairs. The scaled down number of plays should also factor into this to allow the players to play in a more free and fast manner.

Again players are complaining they can not comprehend a playbook, this year it is Offense, last year it was Defense. Did they all fail the wonderlic? Why are all these guys unable to comprehend what the coaches are doing? Are we the only team that needs to make things vanilla for our players? Are the coaches unable to convey to the players what they want properly? I don't get it.

I hope this this not new, but simplified offense, will correct the play clock issue. I really have never witnessed a team line up for a play with under 5 on the play clock on such a consistent basis, there is no time to even think about changing the play or TT has to call a TO because there is no time to get a player in the right position. And I am hoping the issue was it was taking too long for play to be sent to TT and then for TT to relay to the team. A QB needs time to survey the defense and think about the coverage, spot a blitz, and multiple other key alignments. Again I am hoping this corrects that issue, not saying it will, but I never could understand the lack of urgency or even a lack of trying to move at a faster pace when the Bills were between plays.

Yolo - you save me so much typing all the time, it's appreciated. :beer:

Simplified play calling does not equal "Players are stupid and can't understand the playbook". Yeesh, people here are funny...

Then why the need for things to be dumbed down?

Maybe the coaches communicate poorly.

Maybe the coaches are poor teachers and focus more on trying to win a chess game by themselves.

Maybe the coaches try to remove human error from the game which isn't possible.

Oh my, as I am typing, I realize it sounds like ego maniac, square peg round hole Marrone!

Happy Ground Hogs Day!

Streamlined isn't the same thing as advanced either

They can't install a new offense in season. They have to roll with a select package of plays that they best feel can exploit matchups on a week to week basis.

So in other words.....

the Same Run first offense, that doesn't utilize the middle of the field and relies on the big play

No! They certainly can keep the same offense but mix things up to keep opposing defenses off balance.

@mikerodak

Rex Ryan says it was Anthony Lynn's call to move to coaches' booth to call plays. Lynn thinks it'll help "block out" distractions on field.

@ChrisBrownBills

Rex- Volume of offense will be cut down but there's plenty in there and it looked good in practice today. #Bills

@mikerodak

Anthony Lynn says he can "work within" Greg Roman's system. "We're going to make this work."

Coach Lynn - on identity of offense. - want to play, smart, physical football, be explosive and stay on the field. #Bills

Coach Lynn - for better execution we've reduced the variables. We want to be able to play fast. Changes at LOS will be there. #Bills

Coach Lynn- it's a challenge, I've accepted the challenge and I think I'm the right man for the challenge. #Bills

@mikerodak

Anthony Lynn on Sammy Watkins getting ball more: "That's been a focus, but it's also a focus for Sammy to get on the practice field."

A little call out by the new coach! I like him already.
