ganesh Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 (edited) Should Gillislee spell McCoy more often? Is he a hidden gem capable of being a much cheaper full-time starter should the team move on from McCoy after this year? Yes. He is much better than Reggie Bush....Bush should be cut. Even CJ would be better Edited September 21, 2016 by ganesh
26CornerBlitz Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Yes. He is much better than Reggie Bush....Bush should be cut. Even CJ would be better With Brandon Tate around to handle return duties, I see RB's role diminishing. I'd favor activating Jonathan Williams over Reggie. WRT Spiller.....Come on man!
D521646 Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Great post, been thinking about this and feel Gilislee is a hidden gem. I don't even think it's too much of a stretch to think he could be a better fit than Shady for our style of offense. The guy hits the hole hard and runs north/south. Shady will take a 3-4 yard loss instead of taking the 2-3 yard gain, and our offense isn't built for 2nd/3rd and long. The negative runs are drive killers. Not sure how Shady's contract is structured, but I do know the money we are paying him could be better spent elsewhere. Shady is gone next year, and maybe even this year depending on how we shape out. Frankly, I'm totally ok with this, he isn't living up to the contract, and most teams in the NFL are RB by committee now anyway. I say if things don't improve dramatically Sunday, we try and move him now. Tim-
somnus00 Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 I was actually wondering if Gillislee / McCoy is our new Freddy / Marshawn. At the time, Marshawn was the high profile back. A first round draft pick. But at every chance, Freddy just seemed to do more. I'm not saying Gillislee is as good as Fred Jackson, but I see a similar situation where the back up does more with opportunities than the featured back. Gillislee moves forward. McCoy moves laterally until he finds a hole or turns up when he reaches the sideline.

Fred was criminally underused in his early years here and this is the problem you create when you pay one running back above the average salary. Now there's too much pressure to use McCoy, and we aren't using the fresh legs that are ready to go.

WRT Spiller.....Come on man! Seriously I was looking forward to J Williams playing but I think hes hurt right? We need a power back to spell Shady. They need to use Gillislee and J Will more then Bush. Bush is a lesser version of Shady so whats the point of using him?

Charles Romes Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 He looked great last year, until late in the season when he was pressed into duty as the featured back. His 24 carry 28 yard performance week 17 is what you will get if you think of him as a starter. A good change up relief back, not an every down back.

That game was brutal but I dont think it was all Gillislee's fault He looked great last year, until late in the season when he was pressed into duty as the featured back. NoSaint Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 (edited) That game was brutal but I dont think it was all Gillislee's fault not all. honestly, ive avoided throwing that stat out until we got to the argument of "every time hes had a chance hes done more than the starters" because i think hes better than the line indicates. but i also will continue to echo that being a successful role player doesnt mean you can suddenly be a successful feature back. sometimes posters get too carried away in the "if you play them more they will be even better" or "with an offseason hes bound to make big jumps" and so on.... instead of realizing that the guy might simply be a good depth back that will potentially make some plays for you. Yep. I said the same about Karlos Williams last year when McCoy went down. Hes a great change of pace back but not a feature RB.
John from Riverside Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Jonathan Williams Get that bruiser on the game day roster
Over 29 years of fanhood Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 Jonathan Williams Get that bruiser on the game day roster I know right? We were told Karlos was cut because of all the better talent in the pool... Well let's see it!
BADOLBILZ Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Gillislee has zero financial security........he NEEDS to make plays on the league's terms. McCoy has far too much financial security for the Bills good.......he WANTS to make plays on his terms. Gillislee is bigger and more physical but it really comes down to need-to. McCoy knows he should be taking those inside cutbacks........it's just a combination of split-second business decisions and a false sense of explosiveness gained by occasional bounces that yield 10-12 yard runs on the sideline.

He was supposed to be healthy week 1 for the Ravens, healthy scratch. http://www.buffalobills.com/team/injury-report.html Double checking, nope, not there.

We need J Will in there, at this point we need him to start developing, we save nothing by keepin Bush active over Williams. In our current scheme, with our current roster and roster holes would you all agree when I say J Will > Bushface?
