Wentz looked absolutely fantastic. #Wentzlyvania trending.

The Browns sure let an opportunity go to get a Franchise QB.

I thought that the Bills were employing some Schwartz techniques on Sunday, the way that tbey were lined up all spread out on the defensive front and rushing the passer from who knows where.

You play to the strength of your players and more or less you will win!!!!...You cannot push players into a scheme.

Doesn't matter the scheme. Cox is the best lineman in football right now.

Good for Schwartz though, maybe he'll get another chance

To think there were people on here telling me I was blinded by my man love for Schwartz and he was not really that good.

He IS that good. I want him on the list if Rex is gone, but I am not going to post any anti-Rex comments this week. Thought he did a nice job yesterday.

getting rid of Jim Schwartz was one of the worse mistakes bills made and they made a **** ton

I couldn't agree more. I would have kept Schwartz and brought in an offensive head coach. Then in the past draft I would have drafted all offense instead of almost all defense. I would have drafted a wide receiver in round one and then offensive lineman in round 3, 5, 6,, and 7. Round 4 would have been the back up quarterback. The Bills "D" was fine under Schwartz we wouldn't have needed to draft all these defensive players to fit Rex's scheme. I always say, if ain't broke don't fix it.

Splain?

Head Coaches generally don't like taking a job with half the power, even if it is the preexisting coordinators specialty, so forget Pegula forcing the idea.

The offensive minded head coach would had to have wanted Schwartz to be here same as Rex. History shows the new head coach typically brings in his own staff though.

THIS WAS NOT AN OPTION

Sure it was....reports are that Whaley wanted Hue Jackson as HC...also reported that Jackson and Whaley talked to Schwartz about staying as DC......of course all speculation and no way of knowing if Schwartz would have stayed but still possible it could have happened

@phillysport

Eagles coordinator Jim Schwartz has turned a laughingstock into the NFL's stingiest defense. @inkstainedretch: http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/20161007_Eagles__Schwartz_has_hire_aspirations.html

But...but...coaching doesn't make a difference....it's just an excuse, right?

Exactly. Schwartz wanted a HC job, but what job does he have now? And was he interviewed for any other HC jobs that year? (I believe the answer is no). A guy can want a HC job, but if he isn't getting interviews much less offers, and if he's offered to stay and work where he's been very successful with someone he is comfortable with, it's quite conceivable he could change his mind, stay, and improve his HC charisma for subsequent seasons by continuing more D success with a different HC.

The only decision that made it "no option" was the decision to bring in Rex, who was plainly going to re-vamp the defense in his own image and function as DC.

How many situations do you know of a head coach coming in and keeping an offensive or defensive coordinator? Just because you say "they would be ok with it" doesn't make that true in any sense.

Will the tired Schwartz theme ever be put to bed?

On January 6th, 2015 the Bills interviewed Jim Schwartz for the HC position. He was asked by Terry Pegula if, in the event the job went to somebody else, he would consider returning as Asst. HC/DC. He said he was only interesting in returning if he were named the head coach. There are probably many reasons for this but they can be summed up best in two words: professional courtesy for whomever the next HC would be.

There are those that insist on believing that Ryan was responsible for letting him go or that Hue Jackson would have convinced him to stay. Schwartz made his position known well before Rex Ryan was even on the radar to be interviewed, let alone hired and the best one can say about the Hue Jackson scenario is that it is pure conjecture in light of Schwartz's answer to the Bills the day before Jackson was interviewed.

That's what he said when the HC position was open and he was trying to convince them that he's the guy to lead the Bills to a championship. If he says at that time that he's willing to stay as DC then the Pegulas decision becomes very easy. Circumstances change. It's all conjecture.

But it's not all conjecture. It's a fact that Schwartz said he was only interested in coming back if he was named HC.

It's conjecture that Hue Jackson would have talked him into staying if he was hired.

It's conjecture that Rex Ryan decided Schwartz had to go.
