It pains me to say this, but Fitz under Maroon instead of Orton? Maybe.... Certainly you don't get 3rd and pu$$y with Fitz against DEN.

If that money wasn't spent on RB's what QB's would you rather we went after in the last 16 years?

It's easy to say that as a cop out but it's the entire philosophy of this team that is so far off basis that it's sickening. We don't have a QB so let's spend a crap load of money on RB's and try and lead the league in rushing. That clearly doesn't work unless your goal is to be .500 and just stay competitive. The plan should have been that since we have no QB let's tank and get one and keep drafting them until we get one. Clearly you can have a good running game but it means crap unless you have the QB. Using first round picks on McGahee, Marshawn, and Spiller and spending a boat load of money on McCoy isn't the answer and has sent us spiraling into the bowels of the NFL

I believe about 5 of them are Fitzpatrick (3 of them losses) and 2 of them are Orton (both losses)

 

Before we get too freaked out by this, please do consider that passing yards per game is not a statistic that's highly correlated with winning, nor is there anything magic about 300 yds which makes it better than 295 yards, other than being a nice round number. QB tend to air it out and sling it when their team is behind and they're trying to catch up, and D's tend to allow more yards when their team is ahead and they're playing prevent D.

 

It does speak to the overall competence (or lack thereof) at our QB position, though, since we've certainly been in positions where come-from-behind was necessary a lot.

Notwithstanding your analysis here, if we are to assume that good QBs throw for 300 yards or more often, and if the data is correct in showing that Ryan Fitzpatrick is the Bills leader in this metric since 2003, is it any wonder we perpetually suck?

 

Ryan Fitzpatrick is a HORRIBLE quarterback and he was the best had in the last 13 years at least with regard to this statistic?

I recall a game that losman struck two 83yd bombs to lee evans, evans had like 230yards receiving. One was stunning, like 75yds in the air.

And Derek Carr just had his eighth career 300yd passing game on Sunday. The Bills collective QB arsenal doesn't have many more since '03. Sometimes we struggle to comprehend just how awful this team has been for so long. That puts it in perspective.

That team is an outlier in today's NFL . But look at why: they had a young QB starting , a beast of an RB / OLine and a suffocating defense that tackled better than just about anyone. Most teams don't follow that blueprint.

No the cop out is naming names for your side but not being bold enough to say we should have spent the money on XYZ QB's. Now you're switching to draft picks? Which is it, spending money on RB's or drafting them? You're confusing yourself with not answering your own questions.

 

Why would you're frustration be limited to RB's then? Very strange. Why not say we shouldn't spend money on corners, defensive ends or defensive tackles? I mean under your theory - just don't do that and get a QB. So easy, right?

I think he's saying both. First round picks have higher salaries than lower picks.....we spent a lot of first round picks and money on rbs. It's not a cop out it's a fact.

Oh boy. I'm saying it's the philosophy of the team that's out of whack. Putting a higher value on the RB position and saying lets be a running team instead of a passing team and spending a lot whether in draft or in salaries when it's been shown time and time again that a) RB's are a dime a dozen and b) it takes a QB to win in this league. I just named off 3 first round RB picks that should have been spent on a QB. Or use them as ammo to get a QB. Or tank and get the top pick. You can have the best running team in the league and it means jack if you don't have a QB so get one at all costs.

A couple of things... at no point in the Wilson era have Seattle had a beast of an offensive line, in fact it is an area that they have consistently scrimped and saved to pay the defense. Lynch and Wilson have covered many ills in that area.

 

It is true that not many teams can follow that exact blue print but go and look at the teams that have gone deep in the playoffs the last 4 or 5 years.... New Englans who chuck it 40-50 times a game are actually the exception.... most of them run the ball and often.

Was listening to the 550 morning show and they mentionned that since 2003 there have been over 1200 games where a QB has thrown for over 300 yards.

 

How many of the 1200+ games to the Bills own?
