But he isn't wrong is he?

Your right it's in the past. But he is 100% correct that Rexs scheme !@#$ed up a good thing.

Keep your tears flowing. It's over and done with. Go Bills!

Ravens getting Hester is a problem now that Gay is gone.

Could be. If Hester is still effective at all, you have to devise a ST game plan for him.

Can I watch it at your house? Do you have any big rocks or bricks I can borrow? :)

Just salted peanuts. I learned my lesson years ago

2 passing teams lit up our secondary. Doesn't change the fact that we had the best DL in the NFL. We were talking about the pass rush:

2014 sacks = 54

2015 sacks = 21

You said Rex will be creative with the pass rush. We don't need to be creative. Too much thinking. I prefer you beat your guy and hit the QB and that's what these guys prefer too. When you have Dareus and Hughes in coverage and Robey rushing the passer, no wonder we can't get to the QB

I dont think anyone can argue the drop off in Rex's first year here.

Even Rex. I think we should all expect a much better D. All around.

Not to you personally , but i wish folks would not expect to regain Jim. S's sack machine to come back.. Or to continually point to that.

It was an amazing season for the pass rush and great fun to watch !!

But i can nearly guarantee the run defense will be top in the league.

Mark my words if you wish.

Seems Bills have put a lot of focus on ST this year, at least as far as players go?

Let's hope it pays off. Could easily tipped the balance of the game one way or the other.

A lethal pass rush is much more important than rushing defense in today's NFL. By far.

That what everyone says.

I was just making the point.

Not comparing.

I feel pretty good about Bills secondary. Key will be communication back there. That already looks improved. But that is yet to be proven.

Thinking Ravens want to run the ball, and this should be a good test for our newish linebackers. Bills had a poor showing at LB and safety last year.

They need to get better in the middle of the field.

And even Schwartzes Pass rush would not have stopped Tom brady 2nd game last year

Let's hope it pays off. Could easily tipped the balance of the game one way or the other.

Last year Bills lost the game of field position too often on teams. Folks discount the importance of ST's , I think.

The penalties were awful and often

Mario !@#$ed his own thing up. Injuries !@#$ed up most and the scheme to try and make Mario happy !@#$ed up everything else.

Could we wait at least one game before starting with this?

Starting with what? It has been said last year also, Williams keeps getting hurt... Edited by Beef Jerky

Not hard to understand. Just don't like it. Schwartz had the most basic defense around and we dominated at it. Rex's defense was why we missed the playoffs last year. Very frustrating

I'm not so sure about that. The O was terrible vs Pats, Giants, Eagles. EJ pretty much single hadedly lost JAX game. Win 2 or 3 of those and maybe a WC happens. Rex defense can work as seen vs Jets, @Pats. He's going to do what he does, just as Schwartz will do what he does in PHL. That's how these coaches are. I'm not defending the Ryan hire, just that when you make that decision you know what you are getting. With maybe the exception of Wade Phillips, most coaches are married to their system. It's what they believe in . And that decision went beyond the front office. It was a decision by the owners. It's their team. I probably would have hired an Offensive specialist HC who would possibly leave the D intact. It seems that Shwartz wanted the HC job so who knows if he would have stuck around or if a different HC would have kept him or brought in his own guy. Marrone's exit , more than anything, ensured Shwartz's departure. It's clear the owners did not want to hire Shwartz as HC. But they ( not some front office guy) made the decision to hire Ryan and obviously were in it for the long haul: including transforming from one system to another and everything that comes with that.

I think Rob's case is very intriguing: he might be a great fit as a guy that simply communicates Rex's system to the players, but was totally miscast as a guy that had the helm of an entire defensive unit.

Personally, I don't think that it's a coincidence that the communication has been so much better on the field with Rob (and Ed Reed) in the fold.

Not a coincidence. Coaches who were not communicating the plan well were released. Some of the players resistant to plan were cut.

No we did not! Brady and the Pats lit the 2014 Schwartz D up at the Ralph and they were easily handled by Rivers and SD too. Did you conveniently forget that? At any rate, both 2014 and 2015 are over, but no one can make you move on.

The Kool-aid is strong in this one!

That was a super bowl winning Patriots team the Bills faced in 2014 and the Bills had 3 turnovers they gave to NE in that first game. If the Bills OC didn't suddenly go pass happy and the Bills attempt to run the ball more like they did in the first two games then things might have gone differently in that game. Rivers went 18 of 25 for 256 and one TD so it's not like he dominated the Bills D.

But you're right as fans should not be looking at the past. That includes Rex Ryan boosters who can't seem to remember that the last time that Ryan had a winning season was way back in 2010. That's 5 NFL seasons without a winning record! Not to mention that this same HC went 4-12 with his last Jets team.

I'm more bitter than kdiggz is about how a top NFL Buffalo defense in 2014 was made to look inept by a so-called defensive guru the very next year with the very same players. Wanna talk about the Patriots beating a Bills defense let's go look at that first game by a Rex Ryan defense against Tom Brady in which Brady set a Bills 50+ year franchise worst in yards allowed by a single player!!

Rex Ryan has so much to prove to this Bills fan and all the homers can point and say things will be different this year and it changes nothing! History says that Ryan's rookie QB's fall on their face in their second season and I really hope honest to god this doesn't happen to Tyrod Taylor.

I want what every Bills fan wants and that is this year's team to make the playoffs, but I bought into the Ryan hype last year and I'm not about to be fooled again.

Rex Ryan needs to prove he deserves to be an NFL head coach by putting a winning team on the field this year! NO EXCUSES!

Please start another 2014 vs. 2015 defense thread so you can debate this forever.

Never know what you're going to get with Flacco. He can be flat out awful and other times he doesn't miss. Hopefully we get the bad Flacco. Harbaugh is a very good coach and he'll have them ready to play. Will be a tough game.
