Coach Tuesday Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Say what you will about Manny.. but he was solid in setting the edge and decent in pass coverage. If this was a money saving/cap thing... then I think it's a dumb move. Who's going to set the edge? If this was more about off the field risks we don't know about.. then fine. Or maybe this to make room to sign Coples? You know, in the Ralph/Littman days, this would've been a routine cutdown day move - release a few higher-priced depth players to salvage the bottom line on the eve of the season, after most of the ticket purchases had been committed. Now, it's really hard to say. But he's a smart, dependable edge-setter who is scheme-versatile. Not to mention, they have no linebackers for Rex's 3-4/hybrid. It seems asinine but perhaps there is more to the story.
klos63 Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 No it makes sense - cut the most experienced, versatile LB in a highly complicated defense that requires experienced, versatile LBs and doesn't have enough of them... This is such a Bills move. Maybe the coaches didn't think he was good enough. Everyone just annointed him as the replacement for Mario, and it just seemed odd to me. Even with Mario's crap season last year, to think Lawson would just be given the job as a suitable replacement never made any sense to me. And I like Lawson, he's a decent player. Freddie's Dead Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Maybe re-sign Manny at cheaper rate?? I don't see Manny clearing waivers.
HamSandwhich Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Lawson is a surprising cut, given our LB injuries. Felton not so much. Farewell, Manuel, enjoyed watching you play while you were here. They cut EJ???!?!
The Frankish Reich Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 So long Captain Over Pursue!! We wish you nothing but the best. On a side note Manny Lawson is one of the most interesting people in the league IMO. He scored a crazy 43 on the Wonderlic, ran a 4.43 and is 6'6" and 241 lbs. On paper he is unbelievable, but he is just an average football player. Yep. And for whatever reason - maybe the reasons you mention - I really liked Manny the engineer. And I thought he'd be a solid contributor this year. Oh well, shaking things up when the D was so obviously mediocre last year has a certain appeal, doesn't it?
sodbuster Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 I don't see Manny clearing waivers.Maybe that's why the team is leaking the domestic issues...
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Am I the only one who loves this move? It's about time we switched to a no-linebacker defense. Just run a 7-0-4.
Jauronimo Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Am I the only one who loves this move? It's about time we switched to a no-linebacker defense. Just run a 7-0-4. Exactly. Get all our playmaking DBs out in space. Studies have shown that for best results, get everyone in space.
Freddie's Dead Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Am I the only one who loves this move? It's about time we switched to a no-linebacker defense. Just run a 7-0-4. Genius. Make it so. Exactly. Get all our playmaking DBs out in space. Studies have shown that for best results, get everyone in space. We know you love you some DBs.
YoloinOhio Posted September 2, 2016 Author Posted September 2, 2016 I don't see Manny clearing waivers.i don't think he's subject to waivers
Codyny13 Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Maybe they pick up a vet released elsewhere who they like betterRex setting up a contract for Quentin Coples?
Freddie's Dead Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 i don't think he's subject to waivers You are correct sir. Let's say instead, I think Manny gets picked up by someone else before the Bills circle back to him.
HuSeYiN_NYC Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 He didn't look so hot last night against the Lions 3rd stringers. But i doubt he got cut cuz he didn't give 100% in the 4th preseason game. There's something the Bills FO knows that we don't. This is not sitting well with me cuz usually we have better info here at TBD than we do at Buffalobills.com Come on 26, come on Yolo. Get us the info we NEED please.
K D Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 They better have a big OLB signing in mind or this makes no sense. I'm still in shock. Manny was quietly one of the best and most versatile players on the defense last year. He called all the plays at the end of the season
BuffalothruMyVeins Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Well, we wanted to be the Steelers... and they let name LBers walk often enough... though I don't know if they do it on the eve of the season. So, let's see if we can develop talent behind the guys we let walk, like the Steelers also do.
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Exactly. Get all our playmaking DBs out in space. Studies have shown that for best results, get everyone in space. I am even wondering whether we bring CJ Spiller back. Convert that guy to safety, and he can just roam around as if he were in the Milky Way.
nucci Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 And the Bills just got worse......6-10 if lucky!!! Soo glad I got seasons this year. Then sell them and don't go to the games because Manny Lawson was released
