Packers | Salary Cap Troubles - from www.KFFL.com

Tom Silverstein, of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, reports the Green Bay Packers are more than $6 million over the league's salary-cap limit after tagging TE Bubba Franks with a transition designation, according to NFL Players Association salary data. That number will inflate to at least $11 million once the team makes qualifying offers to some or all of their restricted free agents. The impending release of veteran G Mike Wahle, whose contract calls for $11.3 million cap number next season, would allow the Packers to recoup $11 million in cap space, but leaves the team with little available cap room to be active in free agency.

Sounds like they're in deep poop...especially since thier defense still needs an appreciable amount of improvement.

What makes folks think that Mularkey et al are going to feature passes to the TE?

what makes you think franks needs a large amount of receptions?

his two big pluses are:

1) blocking

2) red zone

he doesn't need 80 catches to be effective........

I don't, but several think that is so. I feel that utilizing the TE in the passing offense is desirable, but evidently it's a non-starter with the current and previous regimes. So why pay big bucks for a lighter and slightly faster tackle? They might want to take a look at BC's Kashetta - great hands, decent blocker, and a long snapper - save a roster spot.
