This is not Rex Bashing - this is what Rex said.

Ryan notably pulled Tyrod Taylor after just two drives that saw the starting quarterback absorb a sack and another punishing hit, leading the coach to question if Taylor should have dressed at all.
"Looks like a stupid decision to play him," Ryan said, "because I never expected him to get hit."
With rookie passer Cardale Jones battling shoulder soreness, the Bills were forced to play backup EJ Manuel the entire way after Taylor exited.

Urp. Is that OL-bashing then? Throwing Kromer under the bus as the OL coach? Or what is it? I mean, we need to play people to get ready for the season, no? And if it's our starting QB, the current available starting OL needs to be able to protect him, or do we think the OL starters will go through the season uninjured?

I think that it's either, play all of your OL and your QB or sit them both. If you were going to sit your LT and your veteran RB (who understands pass protection) you might as well as sit the QB too.

I'd say for sure it's OL bashing. Having a guy come in clean when rushing 4 is either poor execution or poor communication. Either way, someone !@#$ed up and could have screwed the season.

Except, at some point during the season your starting LT and your veteran RB may well be hurt so what then?

@TodaysPigskin

Rex Ryan says it was "a stupid decision” to play Tyrod Taylor last night: http://www.todayspigskin.com/pigskin-news/rex-ryan-regrets-playing-tyrod-taylor-friday/

LOL! Tyler was only good when he did not need to throw a lot. When QBs are reaching 5K yards 3K is not prolific

pro·lif·ic

present in large numbers or quantities; plentiful.

Last season, Taylor took the starting gig head-on as one of the league’s most prolific passers. He passed for more than 3,000 yards and rushed for another 500, scoring 24 total times in the process. His second season in Buffalo is expected to be even better with the receiving corps on the up and up.

I agree and hope that this game might just give some pause to the Bills FO in bringing in some better players for that line. Starters on the right side and depth need to be a concern going into the season and last time I looked the Redskins had the 28th ranked defense. So, it's not like the Bills played Denver or Seattle.

If you aren't putting out all of your best players (who would play in a regular season game) then yes, playing your QB and expecting him to not get it is stuupid.

This. Cousins' first OL was out there every minute he was.

That's the regular season. You play your guys then. That's different than now. You don't need your QB to play practice games with backup linemen exposing him to hits.

I think he wanted some reps with Sammy. And that missed protection should not have happened.

Hindsight by Rex. No calling anyone out except someone on the line.

So then Tyrod doesn't play at all in the preseason this year?

Not much anyways. I didn't mind him playing yesterday (or last week) but I'm glad that they got him out after a few hits. I'm also glad that they rested a bunch of guys. I may be proven wrong but I'm a believer in health > reps

Yea, definitely. I actually like the approach they took this year.

Didn't expect him to get hit?

What?

No reason to think a QB will get hit in a football game, is there?

Starting OL or not, there is a decent possibility the QB is going to get hit. And considering TT's style, he is going to get hit, whether the OL plays well, or not. My point being, you should never be surprised if your QB gets hit---you should EXPECT it.

Rex just blurts stuff out, without thinking, and often mangles his thoughts. Then he has to explain what he really meant, sometimes making other misstatements in the process. (Reminds me a bit of a particular political candidate.) Now, my opinion of Rex as a head coach should be fairly well known. But even he knows TT's going to get hit---pretty much in EVERY game he plays. I know many think the way Rex deals with the press is "refreshing", especially when compared to tight-lipped non-communicators such as Belicheat, or Rex's predecessor in Buffalo. But I actually think it serves as a distraction, and consistently puts the spotlight directly on Rex (where I think he likes it). But, it's not a big deal, really. If he wins, we'll find his blubbering charming. And if he loses, most of us will come around (I think) and realize his just an attention seeking failure of a HC.

BTW, I should add: Starting TT wasn't a mistake, IMO. Playing him for too long, once he realized how bad the line was playing, would have been. I actually give Rex credit for starting, and pulling, him.
