Plain and simple, this is not the news I want to see.

While Mingo has under-performed, it has been for the Browns. An organization where everyone under-performs.

Putting that type of talent/potential in New England should definitely make us worry a bit.

He had 38 tackles and 4.5 sacks in his last year at LSU. He didn't put up stats there either. He is just a great physical talent that can't play football.

I'm sure, but that is one nasty five year run of purely putrid picks.

Yeah, it is not hard to see why they are always terrible. The talent on that team is lacking.

I think he could possibly be a an effective specialist.

That would never work in Cleveland because of the expectations, but it may work now.

This sounds like the type of lottery ticket you normally like Kirby?

the team has underperformed as a whole, but they have had some individual success with certain players. Gordon, Haden, Cameron, Thomas, Bitonio, Barnidge, Gipson, etc.

You would think that it fits that for sure but I have seen enough of him to doubt him. We see a ton (and read a ton) about LSU down here. He was the exact same guy then that he is now. I posted it earlier in the thread but here were my thoughts on him at draft time: http://forums.twobillsdrive.com/topic/157540-who-will-be-this-years-draft-sliders-and-busts/?p=2786146

not having a good camp

I did not follow Shelton during the season last year, but he did look very good against the Bills in the preseason. How is Erving doing?

Chandler Jones had 10 sacks in 3 years at Cuse. http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/chandler-jones-2.html Clowney had 3 sacks his last year in college. JJ Watt had 11.5 sacks in 2 years in college. Clay Matthews had 5.5 sacks in 4 years in college.

College stats are basically meaningless in the pros (though we do agree they translate best for Wrs). It's all about scheme and fit. This guy had the ability to go #6 overall. To obtain him for a low round pick seems like a good investment. You can never have enough pass rushers.

It helps to have football instincts. It appears to me that Mingo sorely lacks them.

Compensation from #Patriots for #Browns Mingo is a 2017 5th round pick

That's fair. I honestly haven't watched him closely enough. I hope he does suck.

But I love these type of trades. Our system is better than your system and we will make him a player.

The reason that I bring up LSU is because everyone here said the EXACT same things about him that we are saying 5 years later. He has a great physical traits, but can't shed blocks or play the run, and never produced. If he can put it together he can be a good pass rusher. In 5 years he's the same guy. He shows flashes but just hasn't been able to ever put it together.

Yeah, you might be right. but I would feel better if he stayed in Cle rather than go to NE. Belichick has taken far less physically talented players and made them into good players.

Yeah. I just like consistency. Would people be saying this about Hughes if he got traded to NE instead of us? Because he was less productive than Mingo his first 3 years.

*** April 2017 News Headline *** Just hours before the draft New England Patriots owner Bobert Kraft announced that they have re-signed pass rusher, Barkevious Mingo to a six year 103 Million dollar contract with no gauranteed money and have traded the revived defensive star to the Buffalo Bills for the 2017, 2018 and 2019 first round draft picks. Head Coach Rob Ryan says he is pleased with the deal.
