Dear OP I think your......FREAKING AMAZING I love reading part one and two it's like your inside my head yet we have never met.Your words read like a novel second only to Astros camp notes.I can only describe it as soft core Bills porn.I second all your points and analysis and have mentally awarded you my version of the Nobel prize for journalism.Dude if you ever get to west Palm Beach I have the NFL package and beers....Here's to optimism and intelligence(insert little beer drinker emoji I can't access from my mobile)

I feel the Bills have a solid chance this year. I think we underestimate the potential for the defense to have a big rebound year. We get some injuries and take on the view that holes can't be filled and all is lost. This defense still has the main ingredient, which is Darby and Gilmore. Those two allow Rex to put role players in a position to be successful. That is so long as we get a buy in. Last year we not only lacked a buy in, we lacked communication. I don't expect that this year. I think we will see both improve drastically.

 

Then you have two players on offense in Taylor and Watkins. If we get a full season from Sammy like the second half last year or if Taylor makes a stride or two.That's not even mentioning McCoy who was slowed down a lot last year, especially early on. McCoy can still be one of the best multi purpose backs in the game. Other offensive threats also have the chance at emerging.

 

Lastly, I like the mental side of where the Bills are. Rex was embarrassed last year. He was lit up the entire off season. This team isn't ready to be a bully. They never won consistently. That said, I do think this team can embrace the roll of the underdog. They know nobody is giving them a chance. Motivational monsters like Ed Reed can capitalize on that. That's sort of the feel the Jets had in Ryan's first year they made the AFC title game. They were constantly perceived as underdogs and they used it.

My biggest negative feeling is that McCoy is no longer a special running back.

 

I'm also unclear why Reed will prove to be a great asset. He might turn out to be, but just because you're a great player doesn't mean you'll be a great coach.

 

I would be a lot more confident if our top two draft picks were healthy.

 

My belief is that the Jets are more likely to take the leap forward because of their defensive line, but there is no way to know for sure how it will all play out.

 

Hope for the best, but I'll wait and see before I buy into blind optimism.

He has looked pretty special from what I have seen this preseason. He looks fast, decisive, and explosive. Bodes well for a big season from him.

As for Mccoy he looked good last year and he was hurt with limited opportunities shoot he looks flat out on turbo in this preseason so far and he stated he "just wants to stay healthy for the regular season"I'm excited as for Reed if you read stuff like Astros notes where he states he always has players around him asking questions and looking up to him.I think it provides a direct pipeline between the players a real superstar hall of fameer giving that defencive scheme credibility and not some fat old coach saying it works....it's freaking Ed Reed bro....Ed freaking Reed

McCoy has looked good as a receiver, but 6 carries for 9 yards doesn't strike me as flat out on turbo. Hopefully, once the real games start, he'll look great again. I've just seen too many RBs go bad fast, especially when they have a lot of mileage. I hope he stays healthy and wins the rushing title, but it seems unlikely, to me.

don't look at the stats and box numbers in preseason trust your eyes man..He looks fast I recall him splitting two defenders I think in the Giants game they looked like they were in tar..I think he will look better once Roman gets creative I don't think people realize how over the top Romans run blocking schemes are in terms of complexity and another year in that system with the oline?!...just sayin

So sad, but true. Bills fans have been hopeful too many times only to have their hopes crushed as the season progresses. So we approach every season "cautiously optimistic" or in other words, hope for the best, but not surprised when the wheels fall off the cart...

 

It's a tough mentality to shake. That's the reason so many here are just impossible to reason with, they have lost all hope. They expect the absolute worst case scenario, are pleasantly surprised when the team plays well, and knew it all along when the team falls apart.

 

A playoff drought of this magnitude will do that to the best of us! I appreciate your optimism and I am cautiously optimistic about this season well....GO BILLS!!!!

yeah, they have a very very good roster this year but.. but... something will probably break this year, who knows what that will be this year, but its always something, usually injuries to key starters or piles of turnovers or penalties. something... always something...
