I missed the game... How'd the backup DTs look? How'd our RB depth look? How's our LB corps looking? Is EJ still the single most worstest QB in all the land? Did we fire Rex?

Worthy had a splendid game and probably solidified his roster spot. Backup RBs were decent - Gilleslee ran well until he concussed himself, and J Will looked pretty good. LBs played fine, Albright had a monster game and is going to push for a spot on the 53. EJ missed some throws and continues to struggle with basic routes and screens. Rex was fired on TBD by FireRex before the game.

Seriously? God dammit. Thanks for the rest, though

The defense to include backup DTs and LBs looked good. Our front seven clearly dominated the Giants linemen; to include first, second, and third string. Eli Manning's first start in preseason didn't go well as he was under constant pressure, mostly without blitzing, and really never got to set his feet to make solid throws. Our secondary held up well except for one play. The communication on D is vastly improved and it's showing on the field. Play calls were in, assignments understood, and players executed. As far as EJ is concerned, I personally believe that many of his poor throws were due to receivers running the wrong routes. Without knowing the play call and the route assignments it's really hard to draw a conclusion as to who was at fault. I will say that we really couldn't get our running game going in the first half, but, McCoy had a fantastic game receiving with a very athletic catch for a TD.

It was only a preseason game and to be honest the Giants looked flat out bad but this game was quite encouraging. Defense looked great and, dare I say, even EJ did really well. I know he only went against 2nd stringers but his passing was spot on. Only negatives were Felton's goal line fumble and Jordan Gay missing an XP and his utterly ridiculous FG miss.

What he meant to say was some rookie WR's ran wrong routes.

hughes came to play

Hughes is right up there with my favorite players. He works his ass off every play. He's made himself better. He was thought of as not strong against the run only because he was a speed rusher but played excellent against the run. He runs plays down from the other side all the time.

He doesn't complain publicly. Even when he had his troubles with Marrone he wasn't a dick about it or take it to the press. When asked to go into coverage last year he just did his job and was good, not bitching like Mario.

Last year, along with Gilmore and Darby he was our best defensive player. When he could have gone to FA he signed here for less. And then, almost more importantly, he tried just as hard if not harder. He's a great interview and role model.

playing left end looked good on him

I never understood why teams didn't always put their speed rushers on the left side of the defense against the usually bigger and slower and less athletic RT. Yes, a lot of rushers like to go off their right hand on the ground and yes it's a little better to hit the qb from the blindside. But the amount of plays that makes a difference doesn't seem worth it. Hughes looked like a killer the first two games. Albright looked terrific too as next guy in.

We just gotta make sure we get him help on the other side

Yep, find the mismatch and take advantage of it. What will it take to win? Let's do THAT!
