eball Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 I just really hope we cut Gay. Wasting a spot for a kickoff specialist is a joke with kickoff moved to the 35 now Actually it's the new touchback rule to the 25 that makes his position expendable.
Wayne Cubed Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 My latest revision after pre-season game 2. Usual guide applies. Additions in red subtractions struckthrough. QB: T. Taylor; EJ Manuel; C. Jones (3) FB: J. Felton (1) RB: L. McCoy; R. Bush; M Gillislee; J. Williams (4) TE: C. Clay; C. Gragg; B. Annen (3) WR: S. Watkins; R. Woods; G. Salas; M. Goodwin; D. Lewis, W. Powell; G. Little (6) OL: C. Glenn; R. Incognito; E. Wood; J. Miller; J. Mills; C. Koundjio; F. Velasco; R. Groy; (8) 25 DL: K. Williams; M. Dareus; A. Washington; J. Worthy; C. Bryant; L. Douzable (6 5) OLB: J. Hughes; M. Lawson; L. Alexander; E. Striker; M. Valles; K. Biermann (5) ILB: P. Brown; Z. Brown; R. Johnson, D. Hawthorne; B. Spikes (4 5) CB: S. Gilmore; R. Darby; N. Robey-Coleman; K. Seymour; C. White; (5) S: A. Williams; C. Graham; R. Blanton; D. Williams; C. Anderson (5) 25 K: D. Carpenter; J. Gay (2 1) P. C. Schmidt (1) LS: G. Sanborn (1) 3 Additional Non-Active: S. Lawson, M. Easley (PUP); M. Dareus (Suspended first 4 weeks); R. Ragland & K. Listenbee (Injured Reserve); S. Henderson (Non-Football Illness); (6) I think Striker is on the outside looking in. He's a 3rd down pass rush specialist only. Unfortunately he just doesn't have the size to set the edge. Bryson Albright was given loads of snaps and I think proved he can set the edge and rush the passer. I'd give the nod to him at this point.

Yes - but he still looks like a practice squad player to me at this stage. A lot of people whose views I respect on this bard are high on him but I am not quite there at this stage. He has got some push on some plays and been completely neutralised on others and his edge setting (certainly against the Colts) was inconsistent. I haven't watched Saturday night back for the 2nd time yet, which tends to be when I refine opinions because you do miss things first time round watching the ball but I'm not sold on Albright as a guy for the 53.

Why is it you see Striker making the 53? I agree that Albright could be practice squads but if given the option between the two UDFAs, I think Albright sticks and Striker doesn't.

Striker has more positional versatility. 2. I think he might be more likely to get picked up between us cutting him and re-signing him to the PS. I might be wrong on both, but that is how I see it right now.

I'm the president of the Albright fan club and even I'd rather see him get a redshirt year on the PS to add weight and refine technique. The problem is that outside of Jerry, we've got almost nothing in terms of pass rush. Lawson, Biermann, Alexander are different versions of the same guy when it comes to pressure. Useful in their given roles but if Shaq misses 8 games, I think they'd get 3-4 sacks between them in relief. Bryson is a spark plug and he's all action. If there's no solid option available after rosters get cut down, I'm carrying him as a wild card. If it's a direct fight between him and Striker, give me the NFL frame. Albright's biggest knock is his weight but his play strength isn't terrible.

I think for both it them, it'll be their special teams play. For as much hype as Stryker has gotten, I haven't seen much from him. Edited August 22, 2016 by Wayne Cubed

I'll just offer this -- both players went undrafted, but only one has "jumped off the tape" in the eyes of many observers.
ChanOverChin Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 I've seen a lot of 53 man roster projections and this has to be the worst one. Gay is not going to make this team. Little has been too good to cut. R. Johnson sucks. He's not makin' it. C. Anderson has done nothing.

eball Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Bills IR'd IK after he cleared waivers. Whoops, I missed that -- thanks!
thebandit27 Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 They already cut IK. Still don't see Striker making the 53. To be honest, with Ragland and Shaq hurt and Dareus suspended, I had trouble finding a 53rd guy for the front 7. I don't think they're going to keep 11 DBs, so it came down to identifying the DL/DT/LB/EDGE guy with the most updside/versatility, so I went with Strike. I also had to stretch to find an 8th OLmen worth keeping given how poorly Velasco has played. I know he's not great, but it would be huge if Henderson could get healthy and be available; 2 backup OTs and a backup interior guy seems the way to go to me (at least with the current crop of players). Now, that may change if they feel that another interior guy from someone else's cuts is their best option.
26CornerBlitz Posted August 22, 2016 Author Posted August 22, 2016 Something to consider as other teams make cuts: @SalSports The Bills are approximately $6.2 million under salary cap for their top-51 before Marcell Dareus suspension cap credit/relief.

Indeed--I'd expect that they'll want to save $2M or so for seasonal transactions, but it'd be nice to see some of that money be used toward front-loading a portion of a new deal for Gilmore, so as to keep his year 2 & 3 cap hits down a bit.
