Mark Vader Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 The final month of the Summer movie season arrives and tries to get the final bit of box office money, before kids head back to school and football starts. Jason Statham stars in "Mechanic: Resurrection". Arthur Bishop thought he had put his murderous past behind him when his most formidable foe kidnaps the love of his life. Now he is forced to travel the globe to complete three impossible assassinations, and do what he does best, make them look like accidents. Also starring Tommy Lee Jones, Jessica Alba & Michelle Yeoh. "Ben-Hur" is, the epic story of Judah Ben-Hur, a prince falsely accused of treason by his adopted brother, an officer in the Roman army. After years at sea, Judah returns to his homeland to seek revenge, but finds redemption. Starring Jack Huston, Toby Kebbell, Rodrigo Santoro, Nazanin Boniadi & Morgan Freeman. Meryl Streep is "Florence Foster Jenkins". The story of Florence Foster Jenkins, a New York heiress who dreamed of becoming an opera singer, despite having a terrible singing voice. Mark Vader Posted August 16, 2016 Author Posted August 16, 2016 BUMP Does anyone even care about this month?
shrader Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 I have to decide between Star Trek and Suicide Squad on Friday. I'm not sure if Star Trek will still be getting many showings at that point, but that is my first priority.

I'm not sure if Star Trek will still be getting many showings at that point, but that is my first priority. All of the negative reviews of Suicide Squad -- combined with my lack of knowledge of those characters -- means this will be a "wait for HBO" movie for me... Star Trek was awesome, though.
Deranged Rhino Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 This is the best movie in theaters right now, by a long shot:

I'll probably save that one though until I can get my brother out to the theater too.

Star Trek was alright. I kept falling asleep because it was the 3rd movie I watched at the drive in and didn't start until after 1am. I was up for most of it but I think the fact that I fell asleep got me out of the loop of what was happening. I really need to see it again but I'll wait until Blu Ray.
Beef Jerky Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 I loved Suicide Squad, wished there was more Joker, Harley Quinn was perfect. Sausage Party was funny as ****. I always like Star Trek not as good as the first two but I still loved it.
Saxum Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 I wish there was LESS Jared Leto's Joker in it. Evidently a lot of film was cut and he is very, very mad (the extremes he went into to get in the mood may be part of the madness). I am sorry this film was not "The Joker and the Suicide Squad" as he wanted it to be. Maybe he can convince the film company to make a "Joker's cut" as well as a Director's cut and let the market determine who is right. My takes: Deadshot - Will Smith did a decent job but he would have been better in Bronze Tiger role. Harley Quinn - she does steal the show which is good if that is what you were going to see movie for "Captain" Boomerang - he threw 1 boomerang and mostly just used knives; did they exhaust the special effects budget? He was only there to convince another character to be stupid and sell some stupid pink toy I guess. He did give a reason for Flash cameo. Killer Croc - best character in film. It appears director did not know what to do with him Katana - 2nd best character in film and a lot better than I thought she would be knowing source material very well El Diablo - conflicted on this, acted well and was set up to be the baddest of the bad guys due to his history. but did not feel right Enchantress - IMO completely off track and character as written has no chance to lead into Justice League Dark. She went from witch doctor appearance to a Inca / Aztec priestess with little reasoning. Rick Flag - well done with what was given but mixing a seal team with Suicide Squad was very odd Amanda Waller - really not liked what they did with her but will not add a spoiler why. By end of film I was hoping she was dead. Slipknot - token character, less said about it better. Evidently there was a whole buildup on how he was supposed to be a serial rapist but it got cut making his appearance meaningless. Batman - good job without a lot of screen time. He had the amount of screen time the Joker should have had. No idea why not credited. The story just did not fit. I'd rather they have written it differently but they appeared to do it that way to allow lots of killing but little blood. This could have been done SO MUCH BETTER by targeting Ra's Al Ghul's League of Assassins. It still can have Batman be involved which they wanted to help drive sales. they would not have had to have the molten men special effects cost, and they could have more locations. Evidently studio involvement really messed up the message of the film. Well. Worth seeing but I am hoping for a better, more coherent Director's cut, If the come out with Joker's cut I'll skip it until the bargain bin.
Deranged Rhino Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 This is the best movie in theaters right now, by a long shot: Just bumping this because I think this movie is in most theaters now... if you haven't seen it, check it out.
shrader Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 I enjoyed suicide squad. They pretty much focused on Lawton, Harley, and Flag, and to me, that worked. One thing just didn't seem right with Harley though. Maybe I can't get the cartoon/video game versions out of my head, but she seemed to have an accent at some points and then not have it later.
unbillievable Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Just bumping this because I think this movie is in most theaters now... if you haven't seen it, check it out. Doesn't look interesting. Reminds me a lot of the Depp movie. I'll wait for it on Netflix.
Deranged Rhino Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Doesn't look interesting. Reminds me a lot of the Depp movie. I'll wait for it on Netflix. I was on the fence going in myself. It was worth the trip and also worth seeing on the big screen for the cinematography.
Jerry Christ Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Don't Breath was pretty good.......will mess with you.
