7/31: Rex Day 2 Presser from SJF

Recommended Posts

Good stuff, I really like the fact that Ryan is having the players that mess up by going offsides or are involved in pre-snap penalties will now run laps and the coaches actually had IK run some. So it's more than just a threat. Last year the threat was push ups and this year it looks like Ryan really wants to reign in the mistakes the players can control.

Fans seemed to be sparse at TC and so were the sponsors which was a little disappointing. What happened to the NFL experience and the big sponsors like Verizon? The Bills news flyers used to be free. I really like TC at St John Fisher.

I'm really hoping that this year Ryan lets his actions and players actions speak for the team as i really want to like the guy and am hoping that he can get this team into the playoffs...this year.

Hey man, I want to believe, I really do! If Ryan can fix a lot of the problems this season that he was supposed to fix last season then the team has an actual chance to do something this year. We shall see!

It didn't take long last year before we saw the major problems manifest themselves in that week two Patriots game. We should know by week four this year as the team faces the @ Ravens, Jets, Cards, @ Patriots. The Cardinals won't be a pushover at home and even the Pats in NE with Garpoopalo won't be an easy win. You should know me by now that I don't take losing lightly.

I didn't mean you in particular, I think a lot of fans were burned last year and are reluctant to get their hopes quite as high, hence them being sparse at TC.

I'm considering going. Depends on the plans for the rest of the summer. I've got tickets to the Giants Preseason game so two trips @ 3 1/2 hours one way is a lot. Want to go to Jets at Bills but tickets are out of sight right now. Will see.

It's not surprising that the fans and sponsors are sparse............the performance of Rex and his defense was embarrassing and unprofessional.....two things fans and sponsors do not want to associate themselves with..........and then you have the matter of off-field issues which turn off a lot of the Pollyanna's. And of course they really didn't do anything to make themselves better on the personnel side so optimism is based on what? Rex actually putting in the work this year?

Personally......this team would be best served by an us vs. the world mentality so I am glad they aren't going to get fluffed by fans for the next month at SJF.

I attribute sparse crowds to (in no particular order):

-- Rex honeymoon over/lack of confidence in coaching staff

-- no QB battle/controversy

-- 1st round pick sidelined

-- Sammy not a full-go yet

-- overall despair

The diehards will still be there, but I think the general consensus among fans is "wait and see."

Personally, I can't live that way -- but I understand why some do.

Some of you Rex Haters should just cut and paste prior posts.

Rex lovers could do the same with the cut and paste option.

We all know Rex is a media player...last year the bragging circus atmosphere...tough team, over powering etc...this year his embarrassment over the failure has lead to " more business like camp". His voice rings hollow with the fans and his players...he has a lot to prove.

Early failure will lead to small crowds for the later games of the year...

you do not have to be a hater to see that, just a realist, as most people on this board are.

You know, I'm not sure what people expected last year. Sure, it was disappointing to miss the playoffs again, but the fan frustration is magnified due to the last 16 years which Rex had nothing to do with. So far, he's 8-8 with what most feel is a team talented enough to make the playoffs. But I think we forget that there was an entire new coaching staff in place, a new QB who wasn't named the starter until late into pre-season, new FA's at key positions that needed time to gel and most of all a ridiculous amount of injuries to key players. I don't need to hear that all teams go through this because while that may partly be true, it's definitely not at the level the Bills experienced last year. To go 8-8 through all of that really wasn't a disaster like some think.

I like Rex as a person, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't question his ability as a coach. I'm holding out hope, but definitely feel the guy deserves a chance to prove himself with this team. Unless this year is a total disaster, give the guy until end of his 3rd year to put up or shut up.

Is this question weighing heavily on you?

yes it is....unprofessional approach to what should be a great profession with integrity...the use of the word presser shows short cuts are taken and thus leads the reader to consider the information being read may also be questionable
