machine gun kelly Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 I agree with KDiggz. I competed at a national level in powerlifting from 1987-99. A partial tear back to normal will take months. He may be able to play, but won't have power on that side, and can easily injure it again with 300lb. Lineman pulling on him.
nucci Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 This is the one thing that really worries me...... Dont want Ike manning that spot heading into the season....we need to win those early games. The ravens are ripe for the pickin along with the middle and late games
Nanker Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 Not sure how you justify IK starting.... I agree completely. It would be much better to sit him on the bench and let him develop there all throughout training camp.
BarleyNY Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 I was benching close to that much and I'm 2 months out and the physical therapist has me benching with 5 lb dumbbells and I still don't have normal range of motion. Manny, if he does play week 1, won't be 100%. JPP showed last year that while not impossible it's definitely tough to play the position with 1 arm, especially if you don't have the strength to bull rush a 300 pound lineman Thanks for the insight. Any idea whether or not he'd have an increased risk of re-injury if he came back at the point you are now?
NewEra Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 What's frustrating about this is Dwight freeney was available. He's 10x's the player IK is. Love me some Doug Whaley, but I don't understand why we didn't give him a look. Give anybody a look. IK is awful. I'm praying striker can show us something and earn some PT. Lawson's injury is certainly scary and will affect his play

He's at the end of his career and would just be a guy you'd rotate in as a pass rush specialist. Not that that wouldn't be a help.
John from Riverside Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 Not sure how you justify IK starting.... As opposed to what?
K D Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 Thank you for the insight. I am hardly one who would know these things.Have had enough injuries , but not at that level Sorry to hear of the injury ! Hope you are patient with recovery. I agree with KDiggz. I competed at a national level in powerlifting from 1987-99. A partial tear back to normal will take months. He may be able to play, but won't have power on that side, and can easily injure it again with 300lb. Lineman pulling on him. Thanks guys. Yea, it's been a slow road to recovery for me. I'm not a pro athlete so maybe my time table is different in that I don't have a trainer with me every day and I'm not a freakish physical specimen like some of these guys. I think with proper treatment they will have Manny out on the field but I just know based on my experience that he's not going to be anywhere close to where he was before the injury if ever at all. I was told my injury is permanent and there's nothing they can do for a rip in a muscle. It will heal on its own but will never be 100%, which is scary and sad to hear. Be careful bench pressing. Proper form is super important. Keep your elbows in. Don't bounce the bar, control the weight through the whole movement. I see guys out of control trying to do too much and bouncing the bar off their chest and it makes me cringe now.
John from Riverside Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 along with the middle and late games Of course.... But at the beginning of the schedule we have some very winnable games.....gotta win the games you are supposed to I was benching close to that much and I'm 2 months out and the physical therapist has me benching with 5 lb dumbbells and I still don't have normal range of motion. Manny, if he does play week 1, won't be 100%. JPP showed last year that while not impossible it's definitely tough to play the position with 1 arm, especially if you don't have the strength to bull rush a 300 pound lineman And I agree with Kdiggs as well....when I heard about the pec injury instantly worried because I am/have been a football coach and I have seen these The saying is that you play with upper body injuries cant play with lower body injuries......but from a linebacker standpoint this affects the generation of power and it hurts tackling form...not to mention it can easily be reinjured.
K D Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 Thanks for the insight. Any idea whether or not he'd have an increased risk of re-injury if he came back at the point you are now? Definitely. If he comes back too early and it's not fully healed and strengthened then it could tear again. I don't have full range of motion, my arm doesn't go all the way over my head. If I went out and played football today and I got caught in the bottom of the pile and my arm got stretched the wrong way I could definitely pull something. I'm sure the trainers are working with him on the strengthening and lengthening of the muscle as we speak. If they have him doing 5 lb weights like me then he would probably be ready some time around christmas so hopefully he's on a more aggressive schedule lol

Definitely. I think my leg falling off would be the only thing that would have kept them from playing me back in the day. Upper body injury, tape it up and get back out there! You do the best you can but I don't think he will be 100% for a long time. Not only do you have to rehab the injury but then you have to build your strength back up. It takes time
section122 Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 Not sure how you justify IK starting.... With Lawson most likely missing time is my point. Actually Both Lawson's being out. Hang on a second. During the off season you trashed Rex for not pulling Mario if he was indeed giving half effort. Yet the guy who Rex would have had to put in can't be justified to start. Sooooooo what was he supposed to do?
John from Riverside Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 What? My point is IK shouldn't be on the team and probably not even in the league. They still have time to sign a veteran fill in. I hope they do because IK is awful. Scott....I am with you I dont like Ike E. at all....AT ALL....he doesnt even flash occasional playmaking ability.....he is a stiff
K D Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 For whatever reason IK is a Rex favorite. Probably because it was one of "his" guys when they drafted him and he doesn't want to be wrong. No other explanation for it. The guy is a dud

I hope they do because IK is awful. So what was Rex supposed to do last year then when Mario was giving half effort? I agree that IK isn't very good but he was the other option last year in place of Mario. So either Rex gets bashed for playing IK or for playing Mario. As for veteran fill ins there isn't anyone out there that inspires confidence (not surprising at this stage of the game). All I could find was Greg Hardy, Kroy Biermann, Mike Neal, Daryyl Tapp, Jeremy Mincey, etc...
atlbillsfan1975 Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 They may have talked to him. You never knowThis.Freeney may have liked the staff or city better or the offer. There are often certain variables that goes into where a Vet like Freeney picks. The Bills might not of had a chance.
stevewin Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 I thought I read somewhere that it was a minor tear. This video from today's practice was pretty shocking to me that they had him doing this already. From this video anyway it appears he has more range of motion and comfort than I was expecting https://twitter.com/4JoshReed/status/761568930813083648

section122 Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 They brought Biermann in. He's an upgrade over IK for sure. I don't disagree but my question is more about your stance that Mario should have been benched last year when IK would have been his replacement. What was Rex supposed to do last year if IK shouldn't be playing?
