Good thing it wasn't this guy that collapsed. This is one of the more impressive engineering feats I've seen.

The office for Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who is on his way to the bridge via helicopter, said that the crane operator was trapped in the crane after the collapse.

He was expected to hold a media briefing at about 3:15 p.m.

Damn good reporting there. I wonder what the crane operator's going to say at his media briefing.

It was amazing to watch that thing at work.

Just went over the TZB a couple of weeks ago.

If that's shut down for very long (more than a few hours) it will make for monumental traffic jams at the other crossings... and there aren't that many.

That said, it seems like they are making a lot of progress on the new spans. Hope this doesn't set them back too much.

Amazingly fast by NYS standards.

Well OSHA will have to come in, then bridge inspectors will have to certify it's safe, throw in some red tape etc etc and the old bridge should be open in a week and the new bridge delayed forever.
