Teams played a lot of single high safety, specifically Cover 3 against the Bills. The coverage allows teams to have an extra run defender in the box. But the Bills were proficient throwing the Ball deep, so teams had to devise ways to stop the All Vertical concept. The Chiefs looked to Nick Saban's Cover 3 match concept to slow down the Bills vertical routes while rolling coverage to Sammy. But the chess game was on, so Roman dictated the coverage with a deep in route to Hogan. The Bills ran the same play three times in the second half, and one of those plays was the Hogan catch that was ruled incomplete...Check out the breakdown of those three plays!!!

This is one of those games where our D HAS to step up and make plays

I am really hoping we see a improved D this year.

I agree. The offense was efficient and effective enough to win this game.

Sammy had 6 catches for 158 yds and 2 td's. It was also one of Tyrod's best games, IMO

One of his best HALFS. HALF. All of that happened in HALF the game. The game was lost in the second HALF when none of that stuff happened.

I'm aware that word is "halves."

Roman got outplayed by his own quarterback. On at least 2 of those plays Sammy was open or in 1 on 1 coverage with an inside throw very possible.

I like Tyrod but he was too confused and should have taken shots downfield at the WR that tore it up in the first half.

I understand and it's somewhat typical of WR's to have stat lines like that - but I wouldn't call it the Chiefs slowed Sammy down. How KC made adjustments after Sammy torched them - would be the better title.

Yup. Thanks for posting.

It also illustrates why we'd be smart to get Sammy some more help.

Thanks!!! Let's not forget that the Chiefs defense is really good too. It was a good game. Definitely and weird series of events.

Will look at videos later but seems like a good start. Some descriptive text for each videos would improve it IMO.

Very much enjoyed this one Erik!

Yea.

I've said it for a while now, getting another legitimate receiving threat would make a big difference for the offense. They have more faith in Robert Woods and the other scrubs they have on the roster than I do. Hopefully one emerges.

Lets hope that groin was what held him back.

You are quite on target, another viable threat would do Bills well. A healthier Clay perhaps? Annen even. A Goodwin perhaps ( i know ), a Listenbee(deep speed!!) and a Dez Lewis in the mix ( red zone high pointer) would change the game Roman could call. it is not that far off to consider ScottLaw

I think Roman is the man- that said I'm hoping the tactical adjustment that makes Sammy a decoy is a rarity.

Roman Fan here too.

I bet he hates doing that with Watkins. But you must admit, it needs to be done

They aren't, but the offense was pretty damn good when Percy was opposite Watkins and everyone else was healthy.

Actually no it wasn't. They didn't play well together at all.

Well, they frequented opposite sides of the field, so it gets a little tricky to play well "together".

The deep safeties watching Sammy sure didn't play so well together on this 51 yard Percy bomb

Roman is smart.

But he's in charge mostly of the run game, or at least that's what we heard before the season.

Carucci said Lee and Lal were going to be mostly in charge of the pass game.

Roman wasn't using Watkins as a decoy. The KC defense took Watkins away by doubling him. There's nothing Roman could do about it except take what that extra attention to Watkins opened up for the rest of the offense. Roman did his job. So did Sammy, but the other players on the field didn't execute well enough. Expect to see teams use a lot of Cover 1/3, often rolled toward Watkins, this season. This is why some of us have been harping on the team finding another quality WR, someone to make teams have to pick their poison.
