Wasting no time, Erdogon removes 2,700+ judges.

Democracy in Turkey is toast.

From RT (so, you know), but power has been cut to Incirlik AFB. Possible retaliation for what Erdogon believes was the US role in the attempt?:

"Local authorities are denying movements on to and off of Incirlik Air Base. The power there has also been cut," the US consulate in Adana said in a message.

"Please avoid the air base until normal operations have been restored," it added. No further details were provided.

According to CNN, airspace over the area has also been closed and power to the facility has been cut.

The closure of the airspace has reportedly led to a halt in US air strikes against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL). CNN was told by sources that the Turkish authorities did make an exception for US aircraft that had already been deployed on missions before the airspace was shut and allowed them to land at the base.

We are taking a Mediterranean cruise and will be stopping in Kusadasi Turkey in 2-1/2 weeks. With all the terror attack in Turkey, albeit removed from Kusadasi, I expected them (Celebrity) to cancel that port. I wonder if this will do it? I'm thinking not.

We ruled out a cruise through Europe this summer expecting lots of trouble to happen.

Nothing says "American Target" quite like hiking around in tour groups wearing radio sets with earphones following a docent holding a banner through crowded European streets.

TURKEY: COUP HAS FAILED, ERDOGAN MORE POWERFUL THAN EVER, PJM’s Michael van der Galien writes from Turkey:

As I wrote on Twitter yesterday, there were three options:

1. The coup was staged by a small group within the military, which would severely limit their ability to strike.

2. The coup was staged by the entire military, which meant Erdogan’s chances of surviving politically were extremely small.

3. The coup was a set-up. Think the Reichstag fire.

Obama is the leader of a NATO country

Erdogan is the leader of a NATO country

Of course the leader of one NATO country would support the leader of another

Obama should stay out of it.

In fact, one of the reasons behind the string of coups has to do with something baked into the Turkish system of government. As TIME explained after one of those coups, the nation’s constitution leaves the military with the authority to “step in” when needed; military leaders are not beholden to political leaders.

Fethullah Gülen: Turkey coup may have been 'staged' by Erdoğan regime

Elaborating on the idea that Erdoğan may have staged the coup attempt, Aslandogan said Friday’s events did not match the pattern of previous coups.

“The coup appears to be poorly planned,” he said, “very poorly executed and everything seems to be playing into Erdoğan’s hands. There are many big question marks of how [this attempted coup] was executed.”

Supporters of Gülen expressed frustration over the accusations against the leader.

“This is a usual conspiracy against Gülen,” said Harun Gultki, who volunteers at the center and lives in a nearby town.

Eh, when your number's up, your number's up. Can't live your life in fear of things that have an infinitesimally small chance of happening.

I agree with this.

... Then again that's probably what this guy thought before he landed in the middle of a coup on a tinder date.

Erdogan said.

"I call on the United States and President Barack Obama. Dear Mr. President, I told you this before. Either arrest Fethullah Gulen or return him to Turkey.

At the center of this rivalry, a fundamental division in Turkish society between secularists -- some within the country's top military brass -- and Islamists, including Erdogan's AKP party.

Supporters describe Gulen as a moderate Muslim cleric who champions interfaith dialogue. Promotional videos show him meeting with Pope John Paul II in the Vatican in the 1990s. He also met frequently with rabbis and Christian priests in Turkey.

Gulen has a loyal following -- known as Gulenists -- in Turkey, who all subscribe to the Hizmet movement.

Hizmet is a global initiative inspired by Gulen, who espouses what The New York Times has described as "a moderate, pro-Western brand of Sunni Islam that appeals to many well-educated and professional Turks."

Nongovernmental organizations founded by the Hizmet movement, including hundreds of secular co-ed schools, free tutoring centers, hospitals and relief agencies, are credited with addressing many of Turkey's social problems.

Sounds like a good person, don't send him back to Turkey, keep him here and call it house arrest.

Turkish government cuts power, closes airspace at Incirlik Air Base http://abcn.ws/2aiFNjE

U.S. troops at Turkey’s Incirlik air base were at the highest force protection level, known as "condition Delta," after power was cut off at the base and the Turkish government closed the airspace around the site in the hours following a foiled military coup attempt, a U.S. official told ABC News today.

Turkish officials told ABC News they believe Turkish planes docked at Incirlik Air Base took part in Friday night's coup attempt, which is why the airspace is locked down.

Turkey allows the United States to use the air base for operations associated with its air campaign against ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

There are 2,200 U.S. personnel in Turkey, including 1,500 stationed at Incirlik.

Good time for the commander-in-chief to hit the links, or head to Vegas for some 'fund-raising'

UPDATE: Operations Resume at Incirlik Air Base

Live in fear or live a life. The good news is that you have a choice.
