Science.

Aside from the fact that it's going to take just as much land and water to grow the plants that will be harvested to make this fake meat as it would to raise animals, I'll go ahead and let others eat this stuff--I'll stick with cow, thank you very much.

Also, we're shooting ourselves in the foot with regard to deforestation by not increasing the proliferation of grazing animals. The more animals graze, the more plant life grows. Really interesting presentation on it here:

Oh I figured, but I am so incredibly intrigued by Allan Savory's work in the desert that I cannot help but spread the word.

Highly-processed GMO plant-based 'fake beef' vs. grass-fed beef. Thanks, I'll stick with the beef. Also, cows and other grazing animals are able to extract nutrients, which humans can then consume, from places that aren't able to be farmed.

His book is pretty awesome. Long, but quite the read. As for the grazing, it has to be done a very specific way to get the benefits. The modern day agricultural system doesn't fit his model, which is why we have the problems. Unlikely to matter to big Ag, but there is a grassroots following for it (MIG, mob grazing, etc...).

Yeah, I've been meaning to pick it up...once I get through the steady stream of books I'm behind on (I've done well for the most part--tomorrow I'll finish my 12th so far this calendar year).

I'd love to learn more about the details, since I think he's onto one of the few real sustainable models for earth restoration and feeding large populations at the same time.

We really just need some plague to wipe out half the human population and then we will again have enough meat.

They tried that already...AIDS...didn't work.
