Bob in Mich Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 (edited) A new episode of Weediquette was on Viceland channel the other day. Check it out if you get a chance. This episode centers on Eugene Monroe and his efforts to get the NFL to consider cannabis as possibly helpful in treating brain trauma. Here is a short clip from the show "Gridiron Ganja" added: The show is on the Viceland channel today (9/10 2:30pm eastern & 9/11 9:30pm). Set the DVR. It is a more personal view than the headlines give. Worth watching as an NFL fan Edited September 10, 2016 by Bob in Mich
Captain Caveman Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 Health concerns certainly factor into some of it but I think the driving force is the RWS. The players porked themselves when they signed off on the rookie wage scale. Not only are some rookies criminally underpaid, it has affected the way teams negotiate with veterans. The reluctance to sign aging players, the unwillingness of teams to bring on a veteran and guarantee the veteran minimum etc. The owners run the show and the players sacrifice their health for a paycheck, get paid and get out once the numbers on those checks start going downwards. I disagree, teams are still playing plenty for worthwhile veterans, the evidence - teams are not spending less than they used to, they're just not paying it to unproven 1st round picks.
PromoTheRobot Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 It might have a part to play in it but I think the biggest part of the stance he's taken is beyond just his wellbeing. The guy made himself a huge target. I don't think he does that if he's selfishly motivated. He could just sneak off with his money and get baked if he wanted to. Pioneers often do.

Saxum Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 Pioneers often do. So do idiots and people who want attention; hard to tell difference sometimes. Good news is he is wealthy enough if he saved well to live outside of US if he chooses and its "draconian" laws.
3rdand12 Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 Pioneers often do. Actually true. If you look back at history and some of the deep thinkers, some of them were shunned and some were not realized for the profound thinking till after death. and some were just loonies who got lucky. Most folks who are asking society to change are bound to be finding massive resistance. just a natural event. The ant and the rubber plant tree. Martin Luther King JFK died trying to change a culture So do idiots and people who want attention; hard to tell difference sometimes. Good news is he is wealthy enough if he saved well to live outside of US if he chooses and its "draconian" laws. yes good thing he is wealthy Brain trauma in active active players? But can we refrain from comparing guys who like getting high with people who died for the civil rights of others?

BADOLBILZ Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 What a stupid post. What is stupid is being upset and perplexed regarding why the NFL should allow use of weed. Can you guys possibly be so dumb to not understand that the NFL's position on weed is entirely based upon using it as a collective bargaining chip? If it cured ALL ILLS the NFL wouldn't allow it unless the players made a concession........like extending the current, owner-favorable CBA. By being so far behind the labor *progress* of the NBA and MLB they've learned to never give ANYTHING without getting something back. Like it or not, the hardball precedent set by players unions in other sports has assured that the NFL will not play fair with the NFLPA. And greed is relative in this. Just so happens the owners have the hammer so they look like the more greedy party.
Sandy McFiddish Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 He is such a good player is he really being black balled because he said they should use medicinal marijuana on players for pain instead of those heavily addictive opiods that can actually kill you?
Saxum Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 No for he was being cut before he spoke out.
Bob in Mich Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 (edited) No for he was being cut before he spoke out. Watch the Viceland episode. You are incorrect. Edited September 11, 2016 by Bob in Mich
Mr. WEO Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Watch the Viceland episode. You are incorrect. So he was cut for advocating weed, but everyone else is only suspended for smoking weed? Does anyone really believe this is why he was cut?

Does anyone really believe this is why he was cut? Did you watch the Viceland show? Watch it and then come back and share your thoughts. If you get this channel on your cable provider, you can watch it online now. Go to viceland.com, go to 'Shows', Weediquette, and the episode Gridiron Ganja Edited September 11, 2016 by Bob in Mich
Bob in Mich Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 The Gridiron Ganja episode has made it to Youtube. Check it out. Also, look for the Weediquette episode on medical cannabis in Michigan. (Premiered last night on Viceland) It points to misguided policing and 'asset forfeiture' abuses as the reasons arrests for marijuana in Michigan have risen since the passage of their medical marijuana law. It was another good episode. Anyway, back to Eugene Monroe .... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQPYkvpksxs
Hapless Bills Fan Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 But can we refrain from comparing guys who like getting high with people who died for the civil rights of others? It's a point, but I think some would be puzzled at the distinction: "wait, you mean getting high isn't a Civil Right?"
