I've never been to Oliver's, but you talking as if it's a good thing that the guy from there is involved gives me some hope. I've been to Creekview and it kinda sucks. Overpriced TJIFriday's level food with a very good location. I know it's the same guy, but if Oliver's is good maybe there's a chance for SEAR. That'd be nice because I do like the sound of dry aged waygu steaks.

Creekview isn't very good. I think that this guy recently took that over though (I could be wrong). Oliver's is one of the best few restaurants in the city.

 

Yeah, sometimes these guys get involved with these endeavors with no clue what they are doing. I too have hope that they involved someone that definitely knows what he's doing.

 

A little bit off topic but former Bill Angelo Crowell has done really well with franchise restaurants.

sometimes the sexy pick (steakhouse, music business, fashion, etc...) just doesnt knock it out like the blue collar (fast food, gas stations etc...)

 

drew brees does jimmy johns here in nola, instead of competing in the high end space.

I would hope The entire city of Buffalo could support more than 1 steak house?!

 

As a Chicagoan, I almost fell out of my chair when the notion of a city not supporting more than one steakhouse was introduced. We have high end steakhouses inside high end steakhouses. I'm not kidding.

Oliver's is one of the best few restaurants in the city.

 

 

Few? There are many good restaurants...The Left Bank, Hutch's, Tempo, Tappo, Bacchus, Trattoria Aroma, Kuni's, EB Green's, Ristorante Lombardo, Osteria 166, Martin Cooks, Sinatra's....and there are many more I have heard good things about, but haven't tried yet...Such as The Lodge, Big Ditch, Sea Bar, Buffalo Proper, Rue Franklin....I'm getting hungry, must be close to lunch...

 

Also, BOSS - Buffalo's Original Steak & Seafood, is another high-end steak house in Buffalo (hertel avenue). I have heard good things, but i have never been there....

I'm sorry for the confusion. I wasn't suggesting that there are "just a few" I was suggesting that it is "one of the best few." In other words it's probably a top 10 restaurant.

Chophouse is grossly overrated IMO, as places like Russell's, Western Door (though that's in the Seneca Niagara Casino), and EB Green's have better fare at equal (or lesser) prices.

I've been to Aro Tapas once and I'm interested in your opinion. Please post your thoughts.

LOL I was just talking about it this morning at our production meeting. I'm more conservative and traditional in my choices. That said I wouldn't go back. My son picked it out. Spanish food............I'm like what's that? Not Mexican? You order a series of plates from $10 to $40 each. They advise 3-4 plates per person. The plates are VERY small, all except for the largest head of cauliflower I've ever seen served to one person. God bless you if you enjoy, just not my style at all

Well the Gulf Coast is more touristy than Buffalo. That said SEAR isn't far from the medical campus.

There are more than one or two good steak houses in Buffalo.

Try Black & Blue off sheridan headed towards transit.

Kind of thought that's what you meant, but it was a good reason to list some great restaurants in the area!!!!

 

As mentioned above, Black & Blue is very good. The suburbs have a lot of great steak places as well...

I generally am a huge fan of tapas, because I like variety and pay absolutely zero attention to cost (with twin 3-year olds, we dine out so infrequently that dropping big dollars on a meal is no big deal).

 

I'm more interested in the quality (and the bar specials)...and yeah, I'll post a review afterward.

I'm not a huge Black & Blue guy. Good steaks for sure, but nothing outside of what I'd expect at any decent steakhouse.

 

I haven't been to BOSS yet, but that location is a good omen IMO--Fiamma was easily my favorite steak joint when it was open. $26 for a perfectly cooked 8-oz filet? You're joking.

 

Right now, I'd say that Russell's is probably my favorite. The steaks are excellent, and that Dinner For Two menu (which is poorly named since it's a menu grouping for one person) is easily the best deal in town. $39 for a soup/salad, 8-oz steak, side, and small dessert is highway robbery. You can drink an entire bottle of wine (get the Justin Cab) to your head and get out of there for less than $100/person.

Your description is the definition of a tapas restaurant, hence the name, Aro Topas.
