Would they move the stadium away from the snow belt and move downtown? Where would they play home games during the renovation? Is a retractable roof a possibility in either renovation or new build? May Day 10 Posted June 7, 2016 Share Posted June 7, 2016 (edited) this has been discussed a lot and argued. I think all angles have a lot of merit (except for the silly Niagara Falls idea) 1. I think that they would prefer it downtown. Would the costs of the property and infrastructure be too burdonsome than it would adjacent to RWS? 2. If there is a Reno, I think they would have to tier it over a few years. It isn't feasible for the team to play elsewhere. Syracuse and Toronto would be the only options. 3. Retractable roof would be a possibility only with a new stadium. 4. Extensive renovation would be significantly less than a new stadium, especially when factored in infrastructure costs. 5. The State and County would help with a Stadium. Im assuming Pegula would have significant private investment, as would Delaware North. The NFL has their loan program too. BigBuff423 Posted June 7, 2016 Share Posted June 7, 2016 I think there are a number of good and valid arguments to be made, but I am one who votes for a new stadium - with the very, very important caveat that I do *not* live in the taxable area of Buffalo or the surrounding counties. I do live in NYS and if NYS were to adjust some pennies to kick in money to help, I'm all for it. My reasoning is much of what others have already said: 1. to be taken seriously as a franchise in the current NFL and social climate, you must put a first-rate venue on the table for the players, fans, and media to consume, 2. I think it has to be an indoor with the option of a retractable dome depending on additional costs, personally - I don't see the tremendous benefit to having a retractable roof, but that's me, 3. the aesthetics of the place do play a part in this, as we are now catering (whether we like it or not) to a generation who has grown up and will continue to do so, on flat-screen t.v.s, high-def cable and the graphics that accompany it so the stadium must be far more media and high-tech friendly and the appearance of the stadium must also show well with said technology, 4. putting up a dome would allow a year round venue - not just for things like concerts - but additional fan experiences such as Draft weekend, extensive touristy type things like the BILLS Hall of Fame with games, displays and museums all done in exceptional quality as well as restaurants and bars 5. And lastly, let's face it - it's a rare thing for any of us to TRULY enjoy the frigid and wintry weather basically from mid-November on to the end of season....and before we talk about home-field advantage in the playoffs, let's not forget this team needs to get there first.... Also, on a side note - if it were to be a dome, I think the BILLS could make at the very least a logistical argument for the Super Bowl, between the new stadium and proximity to Canada and casinos, IMHO it's a worthy argument.... And the state and county (along with some federal funds for infrastructure upgrades) will cover the rest. 5.)
